Get It Together Before Reading Week Ends!

Hey there! If you’re like me, then you’re probably waaaay behind on the schoolwork you were meant to finish this reading week. I always tell myself that I’ll complete everything by the halfway mark, so then I can relax for the rest of the week. But, have I ever accomplished this before? Nope. So, with that in mind, here is a little pick-me-up to encourage you (and me) to get the act together, and finish that untouched coursework. 1. Find a study spot. If you’re on campus this isn’t hard, but for this reading week I’m visiting home. If I sit on the couch or my bed, I know I won’t be getting any work done. If my family is home, I sit at my bedroom desk. If not, I can work at the kitchen table. Sometimes in order to get work done, all you need is to find the right place to study. Find a coffee shop, go to your local library! Study supplies.Books. 2. Make a to-do list. I am guilty of writing to-do lists and ignoring them because I leave them hidden away in my backpack. Try to look at your to-do list in the morning, then decide to tackle at least one thing that day. (Also, a plus side of lists is its super satisfying to cross out the tasks you’ve completed.)

3. Don’t be too ambitious. Honestly, I’m usually overambitious when it comes to what I can accomplish during reading week, and that ends up stressing me out. I always think I could get ahead in my readings. There is nothing wrong with getting ahead, but if I give myself too much to do, then I become unmotivated at the huge task ahead of me. I try to start with what needs to be completed first, then more on from there.  4. Make plans with people. I like to make schedule time with people so that I have a due date that’s not the Sunday evening of reading week. If I tell myself that my essay needs to be finished before I hang out with people on Friday, then I will have it done by then. I give myself a schedule, and stick to it.   5. Turn off your phone (or the wifi). Look, there’s something about being at home that just makes me lose control! At school I normally have the self-discipline to put my phone down after a couple minutes, but not here! I can sit on the couch for hours binging Netflix, so taking away electronics is sometimes necessary for me to get work done. Pinpoint whatever is distracting you, and take it away for a couple hours.

great example of what I shouldn't be doing.
Anyway, try your best to get school work done so that you can have some free time during the week that's stress free. Remember: even if  doing the work doesn’t seem like such a big deal right now, your future self will thank you if you complete it sooner rather than later. Good luck y’all!

  1. I also get super overambitious while planning. Prioritizing what needs to be done and doing that first is a great tip!
