Stories from a Distance encourages students to find community through conversation. Students can expect to be welcome into a virtual space (over Zoom) created by and for students looking to invest in meaningful connections within their campus community over the Summer.
Here’s what this coming week will look like:
ResourceXchange: Let’s talk bullet journaling and productivity!
Monday, June 29 at 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Hosted by Psalm & Carly
As our campus adjusts to virtual programs of all kinds, picking up the hobbies like bullet journalling is a great activity for grounding, staying creative, and staying organized. This Monday, we will be hosting a chat to share our stories on using a bullet journal and other time/project management techniques to improve our productivity as students. This workshop is an hour long and will be held over a Zoom call led by and for U of T students. In all of our sessions, participation is encouraged but never required!

Virtual Fireside Chats: Rainbow Table Talk: Let’s talk Pride on Campus!

Let’s talk about Queer Culture on our campus. With Pride Month coming to a close, the Stories from a Distance team is inviting their lgbtq+ students into a safe, casual space to find expand their queer, social circles at U of T. This student-led, virtual space will bring queer students together from different programs in a safe, confidential, and welcoming space to talk about what navigating academic spaces feels like as queer students. In all of our sessions, participation is encouraged but never required!

No programming on Wednesday, July 1st for Canada Day!
Peer Support: Chosen Families
Thursday, July 2 at 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Hosted by Gillian & Psalm
This week, we’re talking about Chosen Families – who are they, what do they mean to us, how they’ve been represented on TV, and why they’re important in a COVID-19 world. Held every Thursday for one hour, these student-led zoom calls prove that social distancing does not have to feel too lonely. You can expect anything from a casual virtual hangout, guided discussions, or carefree socializing activities. You’ll be welcomed into a virtual space that is inclusive, empathetic, and empowering. These zoom sessions are safe spaces for U of T community members looking for confidential and non-judgmental peer support. Sessions will be moderated and guided by I-Hub staff, and students trained in active-listening and group facilitation. In all of our sessions, participation is encouraged but never required!

Welcome to Paint Night! Come apply all your U of T intelligence to following a virtual paint tutorial on Youtube with the Stories from a Distance community. No experience is needed, folks. Bring your MS Paint, your enthusiasm, and your company! FreeStyle Fridays are one-hour sessions every Friday to bring the U of T community together for casual conversation and themed, carefree activities. These student-led spaces are opportunities to have fun and take a break from school or work with other U of T community members amidst a summer affected by covid-19.
