The Senior Research Assistant is a part of the Innovation Hub leadership team, leading project teams through the design thinking process and determining future directions of the Innovation Hub. The work entails developing and executing team projects, managing tight and often competing deadlines and coordinating with various stakeholders and partners. An ideal candidate should have qualitative data collection and analysis skills and strong leadership skills. Research skills include conducting primary design-based ethnographic research, literature searches, designing interview guides and participant-observation plans, data analysis, insight-generation and knowledge translation. Project management and leadership skills include writing project plans, participant recruitment and scheduling, overseeing collection and transcription of data, and strategic planning on the team’s goals and timelines.

This position is highly collaborative, in a virtual environment, and requires a proficiency in communication, coordination and being open to feedback and iteration. The Senior Research Assistant works with project teams to develop research projects, conduct data analysis, and build data-driven arguments that support a compelling vision. They also support the team in presenting and reporting on the results of their analysis. Depending on the stage of the project or the needs from the leadership team, the work may also include prototyping and testing solutions (such as program administration, evaluation, and event coordination) or co-developing additional materials for partners and stakeholders. The Senior Research Assistant also contributes to the Innovation Hub’s design research process along with resources to support teams in current and future projects.

  • Project management skills, such as organizational skills, taking initiative in project timelines, planning ahead while also budgeting time for feedback and iteration, managing tight and often competing deadlines and priorities
  • Strong written & oral communications skills that can be compelling for various audiences, as well as for coordinating with different stakeholders at UofT
  • Proficient in working on teams and integrating diverse perspectives
  • Adaptable, with a design-thinking mindset, creativity & innovative thinking, and can receive feedback and make changes as needed
  • Reliable and able to be responsive based on project needs and expectations
  • Enjoys working in collaborative and virtual environments
  • Experience in online event development and facilitation
  • Has desire to enhance the student experience at U of T
