The Innovation Hub is looking for committed volunteers who are interested in improving campus life by joining our Design Thinking Experience Program in 2019-2020. If you’re keen to join a high-performing team learning design thinking while working with a campus partner on a challenge/issue that impacts the UofT student experience, we’d love to have you join us!
By joining the Design Thinking Experience Program, you’ll gain:
- Training and hands-on experience in Design Thinking and qualitative research skills,
- Membership in a team of enthusiastic students, and
- An opportunity to inspire changes that improve life at U of T.
You’ll collaborate with a campus partner to uncover the needs of their students by collecting insights from students’ stories and work on the insights collection that will inform future work that will impact campus life positively for students. To learn more about our work, go here and to learn more about the types of projects we’ve worked on in the past, go here.
The Innovation Hub also has opportunities for volunteers who are excited by our vision and want to help us communicate it. We’re looking for writers and a photographer to capture our work, share it with other students and staff, and ignite innovation at U of T.
We’re holding two information sessions for interested volunteers via Zoom videoconference. Join us on Thursday, August 22nd, 1–2 pm (register here) or on Friday, August 23rd, 10–11 am (register here). We’ll explain more about the Innovation Hub’s vision and methods, and give details on the volunteer roles and team structure. Please remember to register so we can send you the Zoom link!

Design Thinking Experience Program Volunteer (#150066)
DTEP volunteers will work on a ‘real-world’ problem with a partner organization on campus, identifying student/staff challenges and thinking of ways to improve campus life. They’ll get hands-on experience in Design Thinking by attending our weekly workshops, where we’ll train our design teams in qualitative research skills and help them apply those skills to their challenge.
Data Analysis Volunteer (#150064)
Data analysis volunteers will be assigned to one or two Innovation Hub projects, where they’ll be responsible for the organization and integrity of data and help the project teams derive insights and recommendations for their partner organizations. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in qualitative data analysis.
Writer (#150069)
The writers will help animate our audience and support our design teams by writing blog articles, website content, and other pieces that cover Innovation Hub news, our design projects, and general interest content related to Design Thinking and innovation. They’ll have the opportunity to pitch their own article ideas and work with the other writers to hone their skills!
Photographer (#150067)
The photographer will capture pictures of Innovation Hub events, create blog images, and build an image bank for future communications. This is a creative role: besides documenting events, the enthusiastic volunteer will have the freedom to propose photographic, videographic, or visual design projects that share our vision.
