Identity and Learning (1.2)

The Academic Success Identity and Learning series acknowledges and explores the complex lives of students and the multifaceted ways in which their identities intersect with their experience of learning at U of T.

These workshops invite students to share experiences of navigating U of T and to gain understanding of how feelings of exclusion may impact learning and academic engagement. They offer practical strategies to help students feel supported and self-aware, all in an effort to foster agency in a supportive community. Students responded with feedback such as, β€œIt helped to talk to other people who felt like myself.”

Led by learning strategists and peer mentors, the workshops cover topics like imposter syndrome, microaggressions and allyship, and exploring strengths through storytelling. These sessions are designed, developed and delivered by Ayeshika Wickremasinghe, sometimes in collaboration with campus equity offices.
