The Career Peer Program (3.5)

In the summer of 2022, The Career Peer Program transitioned from the Peer Career Advisor Program to simplify access, expand capacity and enhance shared services. Over the course of 2022-23, the Career Peer Program supported nearly 1,400 students through one-to-one advising appointments.

By piloting weekly in-person drop-in appointments, The Career Peer Program provided students with the flexibility to seek just-in-time, career-related guidance. Resumé Ready and Career Start appointments were also available, offering tailored support to students and recent alumni.

This initiative increased on-campus peer presence and provided meaningful work-integrated learning opportunities for student staff. It empowered career peers and bridged the gap between students and career-related resources.

From February 15 to March 22 of 2023, peer advisors resumed in-person drop-in appointments. These weekly appointments experienced a gradual increase in attendance, with the first week seeing a 14% attendance rate and the last week achieving a 91% attendance rate.

The Career Peer Program also streamlined services and operational processes, reducing administrative complexities for staff and student colleagues.

Each peer advisor involved in in-person appointments agreed that building community was an enjoyable aspect of the role. One advisor noted that this work helped to improve their own mental health by providing a routine, increasing productivity and meeting new people.
