Get ready for a day of inspiring workshops, keynotes, reflection and wellness sessions, networking, good discussions and good food!
This year I’ve been looking for more opportunities to develop and reflect on my leadership skills. And throughout my search, I’ve discovered that conferences are a great opportunity to do so because for a day or so, I can connect with other people who may have similar goals or interests, but completely different perspectives. And as a bonus, more often than not, there’s always free food. But speaking of leadership conferences in particular, the Leading Together conference is coming to Hart House next semester, on January 12, 2019, and open to ALL students. Get ready for a day of inspiring workshops, keynotes, reflection and wellness sessions, and networking. Organized by students for students, this event will get us thinking about leadership in different perspectives. It will also give us the opportunity to reflect on and share our own leadership experiences, big L and small l. Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time - Oprah Winfrey And on top of all the leadership talk, here are some more reasons why I’ll be going to Leading Together: Celebrate 2019 - why not start off the new year and new semester with some inspiration and reflection on how to lead throughout the new year, by leading myself to this conference. Challenge my own thinking - there’s a limit to my thoughts, knowledge and perspectives, because even when I think I got it all, I don’t. That’s why it’s important for me to challenge my thinking by having discussions with others, especially when there are spaces that encourage them, like Leading Together. I can’t know everything, and why should I try to, when there’s so many people with diverse experiences and knowledge that I can reach out to and learn from. Make new connections - this can apply to many different things, whether it be connecting ideas, connecting experiences or connecting with people. With the new ideas I learn, I can connect them to ideas that I’ve learned before. Also, attending this conference will be a new experience for me that I can connect to other experiences, past and new. And in terms of people, any person I meet, I can learn from them and who knows? Perhaps after this one day together, they may become a friend for life. The possibilities are infinite. Develop some skills - there’s so much that I can learn in one day, and I think that Leading Together will have a lot to teach me. During the day, I hope that I can practice some of my own leadership skills, such as networking and collaboration. And since I’ll be alongside other students/leaders, I’m excited to support them and cheer them on.
