Centre for Community Partnership events

The Centre for Community Partnerships is supporting other units by offering Community Engaged Learning (CEL) experiences as a way to increase our reach with limited resources.

The team built a third stream of co-curricular work, focused on social activism and civic engagement.  Included in this stream are the Social Action Pop-Ups (SAP).

In 2021-2022, 61 students attended the three Social Action Pop-Ups. Here are some findings:

September 10, 2021 16 students attended Voter Registration Day (featuring Apathy is Boring) and learned how to engage in the upcoming election.

October 29, 2021 22 students attended the Trash Talks SAP and participated in the Waste Reduction challenge. This SAP explored the intersections of environmental justice and waste reduction.

December 10, 2021 23 students attended the Affordable Housing SAP looking at the realties of being unhoused in Toronto and learning to connect to organizations and participate in direct action to make change.

These events encouraged student to deepen their understanding of social justice issues and community-based responses, and learn about different tools and resources used by activists and community organizers to mobilize for social change.
