Reading Week is that much-needed breather from classes, giving you a chance to catch up on coursework while also making time for fun. If you’re spending it in Toronto, why not make the most of it? Whether you want to be productive, explore the city, or go on a mini adventure, here are five things you should check out!
1. Catch up on your course syllabus and get ahead: Before diving into all the fun, Reading Week is the perfect time to catch up on lectures, finish assignments, and maybe even get ahead in your courses. Grab your laptop, find a cozy study spot, and power through your work. Some great study spots include Robarts Library, Gerstein Science Information Centre, the Toronto Reference Library, or your favourite café. Sometimes a latte and a change in scenery can do wonders for productivity.
2. Check out the Canadian International Auto Show: If you're into cars, this one's for you! The Canadian International Auto Show runs until the end of Reading Week, showcasing the latest models, concept cars, and vintage collections. It's the biggest automotive event in Canada, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from Feb. 14–25. Even if you're not a car enthusiast, it’s a great way to spend the day checking out cutting-edge technology and some truly stunning vehicles.

3. Try out new restaurants: Toronto is known for its diverse food scene, and Reading Week is the perfect time to indulge in something new. Whether you’re in the mood for comfort food or a fine dining experience, the city has it all. A few must-try places (in my opinion) include Pai Northern Thai Kitchen, Figo, Cibo, Louix Louis, Hunan Restaurant, Local Public Eatery, and Cactus Club Cafe.

4. Take a day trip to Niagara Falls & see the frozen falls: Have you ever seen Niagara Falls in the winter? It’s a whole different experience! The Falls partially freeze over, creating a magical, icy landscape that looks like something out of a fairytale. Bundle up, grab your friends, and take a day trip to witness this natural wonder. And getting there is super simple—you can take the GO Train that goes directly to Niagara!

5. Explore the unexplored side of U of T: If you're sticking around the city, take some time to rediscover your own campus! U of T has some hidden gems that even long-time students might not know about. Some of these hidden gems include the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, Knox College, and the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design.
Whether you're planning a productive week or looking for fun experiences, Toronto has something for everyone during Reading Week. A mix of studying, exploring, and relaxing will ensure you return to class feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the semester.
