I was really inspired by Life at U of T blogger Olive’s blog on the importance of having an unproductive day, so this week, I decided to try it out myself! Throughout the week, I took small breaks from my schoolwork to focus on myself and I wanted to share my experience in this blog post!
Monday:
Mondays are normally my most productive days because I like getting most of my work done early on in the week. But for today, I just did some of my readings and made notes for them and then called it a day! I then spent the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing (I mean it). I made a cup of coffee and just sat in my backyard while listening to some music. It was really great because I was able to truly relax and take my mind off of things and just enjoy the beautiful weather.
Tuesday:
I work part-time on Tuesdays and Fridays and I normally do some schoolwork after returning from work at 6:00 pm, but I let myself relax and instead, I did some painting with my sister.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday, I woke up early to do some morning meditation—something I really enjoy, but never seem to have the time to do. I found that doing meditation or yoga in the morning extremely beneficial because it puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day!
Thursday:
Of course, I still need to designate a day for doing work, so I spent Thursday finishing up unfinished work and completing the rest of my readings.
Friday:
After working, I enjoyed a nice Disney marathon with my sister, which was truly *magical*.
Weekend:
On the weekend, I spent some time with my family and we decided to go blueberry picking since the weather was lovely. I really enjoyed it because connecting with nature helps me relieve stress and we ended up baking sweets with some of the blueberries after which was super fun!
Overall, I really enjoyed this experience. As a student, it’s rare to have a lot of spare time to myself, but I’ve learned that it’s really important to find a good balance between work and self-care. I hope everyone takes care of themselves!
