OUR HIRING PROCESS
The Innovation Hub’s toolkit for what to expect and help to prepare at every stage.
PRE-INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT
What it is
For some roles, we'll ask you to complete a short assignment that mirrors the kind of work you'd be doing at the Innovation Hub. The assignment might be a mini research task, a design challenge, a reflection exercise, a recorded presentation, or a creative project. You'll have several days to complete it on your own time, and we'll provide clear instructions and expectations for deliverables.
What we’re looking for
We want to see how you approach real work challenges in a low-pressure setting. We're evaluating your creativity, critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize information or communicate ideas. The assignment is less about having the "right" answer, and more about demonstrating your process and how you think through problems.
Tips for success
- Read the instructions carefully and make sure you address all parts of the assignment.
- Ask us questions if you have any – you can reach out to innovationhub@utoronto.ca or the person who sent the assignment to clarify or gather more information as needed.
- Show your thinking and walk us through your approach, reasoning, and decision-making process.
- Be creative. We want to see your unique perspective and style injected into the work--this is where you can stand out the most.
- Start early so you're not rushing at the deadline and have time to refine your work.
Please note that generally we cannot offer extensions on interview assignments as we are working on a hiring timeline. However, if you are worried about your ability to complete the assignment on time, reach out to us early.
