OUR HIRING PROCESS
The Innovation Hub’s toolkit for what to expect and help to prepare at every stage.
THE SCREENING CALL
What it is
The screening conversation is an initial 15-20 minute discussion with a member of our team to get to know you better and re-confirm some important aspects of the job. This is a mini-interview that allows us to learn more about you, confirm some of the information in your application and questionnaire, and give you a chance to ask one or two questions of us. Often the screening is conducted by a current or former member of the iHub team. We will provide a copy of the questions during the call or paste the questions in the chat so you can follow along.
What we’re looking for
The screening conversation is our first chance to interact with you and get to know you better, so we look for candidates who can be themselves during the call. We want to understand what drives you and whether the role aligns with what you're looking for by applying to the role. We're looking for students who are excited about learning and growing with us! We also need to confirm that some important details of the job align with your needs and expectations. It is important to be honest in the conversation as we try to avoid any surprises later in the process.
Tips for success
- If your screening conversation is taking place over video call, find a quiet, private space with good internet connection.
- Try to relax – we’ve been there too and know it can be nerve-wracking, but it’s just a conversation, so let your personality shine through!
- Prepare a question or two to ask about the role, team dynamics, or anything else you’d like to know about the iHub.
- Have your resume or application nearby in case you want to reference something you mention.
- Feel free to take notes and pause to think about your responses. There’s no rush
- Feel free to have notes prepared, but avoid the use of generative AI during the screening call. We really want to have a conversation with just you.
- Be yourself! We're looking to empower student experiences, and being your authentic self helps us understand how we can best support your professional growth at iHub.
