It’s October, the seasons are changing, there’s beautiful colours all around us, and it’s the time for cozy sweaters and hot chocolate. It’s also the time of ghosts and ghouls, scary movie marathons and of course -- CANDY.
It’s also midterm season, which arguably is spookier than spooky season.
So, to balance out the studying, taking in the beauty of fall, and the magic of Halloween, here are my favourite ways celebrate Spooktober.
1. A Spooktober Stream
If there is one thing I have to do during October, it is a countdown to Halloween movie-stream schedule. I watch all of my favourite movies, and I create a cute pdf to share with all of my family and friends.
It’s also my favourite way to wind down after a day of studying or after completing an assessment. One movie a day is not a huge commitment and at least the movie might be scarier than the essay I handed in late.
2. Taking in Nature
There are so many parks near my neighbourhood! So once the trees start changing colour, I like to take it all in. Plus, the weather is still nice enough that you don’t need a heavy jacket and boots to go out.
Walking also helps me focus, especially when I am feeling anxious about school, taking 10 - 15 minutes really helps to clear my mind. Plus - it’s just so pretty to look at!
3. Pumpkin. Spice. Everything.
Not just the Pumpkin Spice Latte my friends, to bring in the season my favourite dessert to make during Thanksgiving would be my Pumpkin Spice Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are a huge hit and makes us all get into the spirit of the season.
Baking is one of my favourite hobbies and helps take my mind off of stressors such as studying, or classes I am not doing the best in.
There is also Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate! Another huge favourite of mine.
4. Carving Pumpkins and Spooky Décor
Unfortunately, we haven’t picked our pumpkins yet, but it is one of my favourite things to do before Halloween. We make it a family event and it’s always a night full of laughs as my dad always manages to somehow hurt himself.
I also have my pumpkin lights (see above) and window clings that I put up every year! Helps keeps spirits high!
5. Spooky Self-Care
I love a good self-care moment, getting to relax with a face-mask and a bubble bath helps refresh before a new week or to celebrate when all of my assessments for the week have been handed in on time (hopefully). Why not make it spooky? Luckily so many businesses theme their stock! This year I’m trying out LUSH's “Bat Art” and “Ghostie” Bath Bombs!
October is my favourite time of year, its beautiful, it’s cozy, and most of all scary. I’ve loved dressing up for Halloween since I was a kid, and it’s something I look forward to every year!
How do you do Spooktober?
