Innovation Hub Leadership Opportunities

The Innovation Hub is committed to growth through experiential learning for our student team members and recent graduates. Our hope is to provide progressive leadership experience to student team members throughout their time working at the Innovation Hub. There are part-time leadership opportunities for current students and full-time opportunities designed for students who have recently graduated, are on a gap year, or part-time students who are taking evening courses. Where possible, we aim to promote current team members into our leadership roles.

Directly supporting the Manager, Innovation Projects, the Research Lead takes a leadership role in all design research activities and supports strategic and operational planning for the Innovation Hub. The Research Lead supports all design research projects; creating and carrying out training for team members, meeting with project partners, ensuring project milestones are met, and presenting the work to partners and within the broader University of Toronto community. The Research Lead also maintains the Innovation Hub’s design research process documentation, ensuring that all Innovation Hub practices and procedures meet excellent standards.

Directly supporting the Manager, Innovation Project, the Senior Project Assistant takes a leadership role in all elements of administration, strategic and operational planning, and communications at the Innovation Hub. The Senior Project Assistant supports Innovation Hub employees payroll; supporting all Innovation Hub Teams carrying out their work; supporting all project management; meeting with project partners and ensuring project milestones are met. The Senior Project Assistant also maintains all Innovation Hub operations and administration and communications documentation, ensuring that all Innovation Hub practices meet excellent stands.

Directly supporting the Innovation Hub Research Lead, the Research Coordinator takes a leadership role in all project-based research and the Innovation Hub research teams. The Research Coordinator also leads a small team of design researchers who work primarily on the Innovation Hub’s quick feedback program. Finally, the Research Coordinator leads the community animation for the entire Innovation Hub team, ensuring a dynamic and fun workplace culture that celebrates success.

Directly supporting the Innovation Hub Senior Project Assistant, the Digital Communications Coordinator takes a leadership role in all digital communications planning and strategy for Innovation Hub projects. The Digital Communications Coordinator leads a team of Digital Storytellers in all graphic design, website management, and presentation development. The Digital Communications Coordinator maintains the Innovation Hub’s communications documentation, ensuring that all Innovation Hub branding practices and procedures meet excellent standards.

The Qualitative Data Archivist Team Lead oversees the Innovation Hub’s archive of data, and coordinates data analysis support for design research teams. The Qualitative Data Archivist Team Lead leads a small team of Qualitative Data Archivists that will support the training of team members on coding and data analysis.

The Design Research Project Team Lead takes full leadership over one of the Innovation Hub’s design thinking research projects. All design research projects at the Innovation Hub have a goal to improve campus life, particularly for students. The Design Research Team Lead supervises a team of design researchers in all aspects of the project, including data collection, data analysis, report writing, and presentations, using empathy at every stage of the project. The Design Research Team Lead maintains the design research project plan and coaches the team toward completion.

Small Group Mentorship

The iHub small group mentorship is intended for current team members who wish to explore leadership opportunities in our work. Group discussions will be relatively unstructured to allow time for group members to bring forward topics of conversation in a confidential meeting space and the Manager of the Innovation Hub offers guidance on appropriate topics during each meeting for the group's consideration. The goals for each group will vary but the ultimate purpose of small group mentorship is to identify team members who wish to take on future leadership roles at the iHub and support their leadership development.
