If you’re looking for a part-time position for fall and you qualify for the Work-Study Program, there are tons of opportunities to get employed on campus. These positions usually call for a part-time commitment throughout the academic school year, and are much more understanding of a student’s schedule. Although the positions will be posted on the Career Centre’s website tomorrow (check out their “Job Search” feature), if you already know a certain place that you’re interested in working, you can also visit their individual website for a listing of opportunities. And before you apply, consider visiting the Career Centre for advice on updating your resume, perfecting your cover letter and honing your interview skills.

Check out Art Zone for a listing of exhibitions, readings, workshop and classes in all facets of the arts. With at least four art galleries on the St. George Campus, a number of music ensembles, creative writer’s groups and an active theatre community, explore opportunities to get involved with your inner-artiste!

Whether you’re an athlete or just someone needs an excuse to get out of the library and move, U of T offers a variety of ways to stay fit. Start by visiting either the Hart House Gym, or the Athletic Centre for their (free-for-students) gym facilities. If you’re looking for more creative ways to get fit, Hart House offers an array of athletic and wellness classes, and the Athletic Centre hosts daily drop-in fitness classes. Also look into U of T Intramurals to find out if there’s a team that interests you.

University of Toronto works to accommodate the various faiths of its diverse student body. Check out U of T’s Multi-Faith Centre for programming that encourages inter-faith dialogue and spiritual learning for all students. The Centre also provides accommodation and space for prayer, worship, spiritual practices and educational events. There are a number of other multi-faith spaces available to students across the campus. Also check out the Campus Chaplain’s Association, a multi-faith organization devoted to helping students connect find their own spirituality through education and counseling from a holistic perspective.

U of T has more than ten campus newspapers, and all of them are devoted to covering the campus goings-on. So read them! If you’re looking to stay up-to-date on campus news and what’s going on at UTSU pick up a copy of University of Toronto’s official student newspaper, The Varsity. If you’re interested in picking out your perfect first day of school outfit, check out Vive Magazine. If you’re interested in an independent student paper’s approach to the issues of the day, check out The Newspaper. No matter which publication you read, student newspapers are the best way to get plugged in to the cool things that U of T students are doing.

If you haven’t figured out your meal plan yet, you’ve got options! Food & Beverage Services at U of T (UeaT) is dedicated to keeping students well-fed. This year, they’ve launched 16 meal plans under three categories: St. George Campus Plans, New College Plans and Flexible Plans. The plans are flexible, re-loadable and refundable, and all you need to redeem your plan at any participating location is your T-Card.

Contrary to popular belief, caffeine isn’t the only thing you need in university to help you study. In fact, being over caffeinated and under-nourished can often make you act like this when you wish you were more focused. Try visiting Hot Yam! to actually eat some delicious vegetables on-the-cheap. Hot Yam! is a volunteer-run vegan food collective,which serves up a healthy, local, vegan meal for only four dollars every Wednesday from 12pm-2pm at the Cumberland House. And stay tuned! Hot Yam! has just announced that they will be opening a full-time student-run cafe at the Graduate Student’s Union.

Bikechain is a “do-it-yourself education shop” located in the basement of the Centre for International Experience.The “shop” has staff and volunteers who help educate folks on repairing their own bikes through hands-on work. Services are free for students, although donations are appreciated for any parts that you might use on your fixer-upper. They also have a lending program for bikes that is completely free of charge for U of T students. Bikechain is open every Tuesday to Friday from 11am-5pm.
