If ever we had to designate a time of the year that made people feel the most "BLAH," it would be around now. The dreary weather and post-holiday lull make for a very uninspiring landscape that certainly do not help to foster creativity. I too fall prey to the monotony that is the mid-winter blues. (Is it even mid-winter? Realistically, has it even been a true winter this year? Are we feeling the ramifications of global warming? All good questions). Feeling like a sad, deflated, grey-tinged marshmallow, I can get really unmotivated to deal with work and school - which can be quite problematic at the start of a new semester. However, I have a few tricks to try and inspire creativity and productivity:
Working the Resume
If you have ever had a job or wanted one — chances are that you have probably written a resume or a cover letter at some point throughout your adolescence. I remember sitting in Careers and Civics class in grade…
Summer Brings Both Stresses and Smiles
Hello everyone, my name is Kevin. I am a fifth-year student studying Psychology and Cognitive Science. I also like to keep myself active, either by biking pretty much everywhere, or by pretending to be an athlete through intramural sports. This…
Planning to Procrastinate
I have never felt so emotionally attached to an e-card as the one you see below. Not only do I feel like this victorian lady is my spirit animal, but I also feel as if I may have actually written…
The Road Ahead: Planning for Post-Exam Life
“I can’t believe this year’s already over!” we all say to ourselves in disbelief. In just over a month (even sooner for some people) we’ll be done with exams and will be free for four months. Now I know many…
One Long To-Do: The Importance of Finding the Right Balance
Hello dear blog readers! Welcome back to school for our winter semester. For me, I am incredibly excited to get things going. Yet this week was probably not what I had in mind. Alongside my course readings, I have twelve…
Don’t worry, be app-y
I often find that I have the need to be on the grid to be able to keep up with the fast paced student lifestyle. Getting a smartphone was a complete game-changer because it allowed me to be productive while…
In which I do what I say…
We’re in the beginning stages of exams, and UofT has been zombified. Everyone seems to be walking around in various ‘walking dead’ personas. Last week I talked about taking time off to really enjoy how far you’ve come, so this…
The Jolly Season of Midterms
Oh midterm season, that dreadful time of year when everyone hides in their rooms or at the library, with their heads buried in their textbooks, forgetting that they ever had a social life. As a second-year student, I know the…
Practice, or Homework, Makes Perfect
I’ll admit it. Sometimes I can be a keener. This is odd because as a self-proclaimed and-still-struggling-procrastinator-who-has-had-an-unfortunate-history-of-not-being-able-to-keep-up-with-anything-type-of-person (long label, I know), it’s quite contradictory to claim that I’m also the total opposite. But, hear me out. Whenever I sign up…
