Summer in Toronto would have to be my favourite time of the year. Here are six affordable things to add to your summer bucket list.
1. Visit Centre Island
The Toronto Islands is the perfect getaway in the city if you’re looking for a boat ride and a beach. Save some money by packing a picnic, visiting the Petting Farm, and taking a stroll on the beach.
Tip: If you take a water taxi to the island, you can come back on the Toronto Ferry for free.
Price: $9.11 for an Adult Ferry Ticket round-trip or $12.50 Water Taxi fare
2. Visit Stackt Market
Stackt Market is a marketplace designed entirely out of shipping containers. A few weekends ago, I went to the Asian Night Market, and there was entertainment, food and live music. There is always something happening each weekend, including the Tkaronto Music Festival on June 21-24, a Live Music Series on June 30, and a Black + Indigenous Vendor Market on July 15. There is also the iconic Umbrella Sky Project you’ve probably seen on your For You Page, happening now until October 31st.
Price: Free admission

3. Visit Toronto Botanical Gardens
If you enjoy nature, Toronto Botanical is a gardener’s dream! The garden features kinds of flowers, trails to walk along, and even a small café with sweet treats. Also great for your next Instagram photoshoot!
Price: Free Admission
Waterfall and surrounding green trees Jess walking down a set of outdoor stairs
4. Try a New Café
Elevate your next coffee experience by trying out a new coffee shop! Try something you wouldn’t have tried before and you may find your next go-to order.
Price: $5-10
Cafe 23 Lemon croissant and an iced london fog
5. Visit the Canadian National Exhibition
CNE is another summer must-do! Enjoy some midway rides, live music, international performances and interesting food, like charcoal ice Cream.
Price: $11 after 5pm, $20 for full day admission
Charcoal ice cream CNE zipline at night
6. Attend a Candlelight Concert
I could not recommend attending a Candlelight Concert enough! In a venue full of (flameless) candles, live musicians play songs from your favourite artists, from Queen, to Adele, to ABBA, and Beyonce. I’ve been to two shows — Bach to the Beatles, and Taylor Swift, and they were both magical!
Price: Tickets as low as $25!
