For those of you taking Summer courses, you know ALL TOO WELL how quickly the course materials go by and before you know it finals are here (…then again, it feels like that during the Fall/Winter courses but y’all know what I mean!). One of my favourite things to do on-campus is to hit the gym, stressed or not.
I obsessively go to the gym. Yes, obsessively. It’s practically my second home! I drag (cough* I mean, invite) my friends to drop-in fitness classes on most days. From Zumba, Ginga, Island Groove, Tabata, Cardio Kickboxing to Bollywood classes that all happen in the Athletic Centre, Goldring Centre, and our beloved Hart House – there is a class for everyone!
The fitness instructors here on campus are AMAZING! They motivate me to work hard whenever I am at the gym! It is not just about losing weight but being fit and healthy. Our team captain, Madelin teaches Cardio Kickboxing and the first time I took that class, I was wiped! She definitely whooped my butt! If you are more into dancing, there are many classes to choose from as I mentioned above such as Zumba, Island Groove, Ginga, and Bollywood dance!
Not too long ago aka a couple of weeks ago, one of the fitness instructors (Dione) here at U of T held an awesome 2-hour dance fitness event that included AfroFusion, Caribbean, Latin, Pop and Reggae rhythms. It was a total BLAST!
If you are not taking any summer courses this term, do not fret! There are FREE yoga sessions around downtown Toronto that you can take part in as well!

I know the feeling way too well. Finals approach faster than anything else in the calendar!! Do you have any favorite sports / classes that helps you deal with the stress better? I prefer yoga. It works very well for me.
Hey Anne! I love yoga as well, it’s so calming and it really helps me clear my mind. I really like fast-paced classes such as Zumba! It’s fun and helps me blow off steam when I’m feeling overwhelmed with assignments and such. If you like yoga, there are free drop-in yoga classes at the Goldring Centre on Thursdays! So if you have time, check it out!
