The FCO was contacted by an undergraduate student, Danielle Lui. Danielle is co-directing the Victoria College Helpers. They want to reach out to U of T students, staff and faculty who have children, particularly those who may not be able to afford paying a tutor. Danielle wrote up the below description about their generous, free tutoring program! Please connect with them directly. Thank you, Danielle!
If you have been looking for some academic help for your kids or students you know, the Victoria College Helpers are here to support you! The Victoria College Helpers (VCH) is ratified as an official club by the Victoria University Students’ Administrative Council and we are in the process of becoming a University of Toronto Student Union recognized group. Our aim is to provide free, virtual, 1-on-1 tutoring sessions for students in the GTA. The idea for the program is based on a non-profit group in Halifax called The Halifax Helpers. Our VCH executive team is made up of UofT students, and we wanted to expand this branch to connect University and high school students with a volunteer opportunity to serve students and families within the GTA!
In Halifax, our group is partnered with the Halifax Regional Center for Education (the school board for the greater Halifax region) as well as SchoolsPlus (a network of support workers in all Nova Scotian Schools). Our programs help to support over 400 families annually. You can learn a bit more about THH’s services by checking our website (link here). VCH tutoring services will be available in the same format soon!
Our team is very excited to begin holding tutoring sessions! These sessions are bookable on the Victoria College Helpers official website on our launch date February 6, 2023! Our tutor’s availability, profiles, and specialization in each subject and age range will be viewable as well and you can feel free to choose which tutor will best suit your preferences and needs. If you have any questions about our program, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
