Virtual Private Networks

In these current circumstances, we recognize not everyone can access some of the platforms featured due to lack of regional availability or security reasons. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) allow one to route their computer’s internet traffic through a specific network when not immediately connected to it. Please consult your federal or regional law on the use of VPNs before using any of the following solutions.

UofT's offers two VPN solutions for students. Please note while UTORvpn is a general access VPN service, Alibaba CEN should only be used for UofT services:

    • UTORVPN creates a direct connection to UofT's network by giving you a university IP address, through which all internet traffic will pass through once connected. UTORvpn is available to all University Faculty, Staff, and Students identified by UTORid.
    • Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN): This network solution provides a lower latency connection to University of Toronto (U of T) services specifically for students connecting from mainland China. Some websites outside of U of T will not be available when using this service, such as YouTube and Yahoo. Note: Please only use this solution if you are connecting from mainland China.
