So, as this is my last post before the break, I thought I\u2019d share some resources to get involved in creative writing on campus.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n

Cred: Giphy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nIt always seems like a competition to be published, to fill the spots in a writing workshop, to be a better writer, but I think it\u2019s important for young writers to be encouraged to continue their craft. There\u2019s a huge community for people interested in creative writing here at U of T, and I really wish I\u2019d known that when I was in first year. Below is my compiled knowledge of creative writing on campus.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIf you are interested in getting your work published, you can submit to the following campus organizations. Many of them have two acceptance periods, one per semester. The ones that I have starred(*) will accept work at any time, however because of this, the work is mostly published online. If you\u2019re interested in editing, graphic design, or want to submit visual art, these groups are also worth looking into.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nSubmit to:<\/strong>\r\n\r\nUC Review<\/a> (printed journal) <\/span>\r\n\r\nTrinity Review<\/a> (printed journal)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nActa Victoriana<\/a> (printed journal)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nHart House Review<\/a> (printed journal) <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe Varsity<\/a> (new this year: holiday exhibition for creative work)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe Goose<\/a> (printed journal)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nScribbler<\/a> (online, it\u2019s new this year!)*<\/span>\r\n\r\nHalf a Grapefruit<\/a> (online)*\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nHardwire<\/a> (printed, journal of sexual diversity studies)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nOther places to submit<\/strong> (that are not strictly for creative writing but writers will still be interested):\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nFilms with a Cause<\/a> (you can write a meaningful film review)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nLife @UofT<\/a> next year \ud83d\ude09\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nStudent Unions<\/a> accept academic essays<\/span>\r\n\r\nNewspapers<\/a> from each college accept articles (mostly journalism)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nTo get involved in the creative writing community check out:\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nHart House Literary and Library Committee<\/a> events\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nCheck the literary journals above for events!<\/span>\r\n\r\nWriter in Residence<\/a> (semester of workshops with a Canadian author)\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nOpen mic nights all over campus (you can read your work there!)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThere are also courses you can take:<\/strong> this link<\/a> has a summary of ALL the writing courses on all three U of T campuses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n
