This marks the first day of #JoyatUofT week, an initiative to spread happiness and meaningful reflection on what brings you joy. It\u2019s especially important at this time of the year when it\u2019s cold outside, midterm season is in full swing, and motivation can seem hard to come by.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Since I'm a blogger on behalf of the Centre for Community Partnerships, I thought it would be best to write about how campus involvement brings me joy.<\/span>\r\n\r\n It\u2019s only my second year at UofT, but I\u2019ve been more actively involved than I ever thought I would be able to and it\u2019s been incredibly rewarding. For one, being a work-study student for CCP and getting to write for this blog has given me extremely valuable experiences and has encouraged me to take the initiative to learn new things. In addition to blogging, I\u2019m also an editor for a publication on campus that I joined in my first year (<\/span>The Spectatorial,<\/span><\/i> check us out!) and it\u2019s been so much fun being a part of a team of extremely creative writers and editors.\u00a0 Other things that I engage in that bring me joy: residence life, exploring campus on a regular basis, and being involved in my program of study! All of these experiences have exposed to me what an interesting and exciting place UofT can be.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nWorking with CCP in particular has opened my eyes to the importance of building communities. The word \u201ccommunity\u201d is something that we throw around a lot, but being on a campus as enormous as this has forced me to realize the value of being engaged and forming meaningful connections wherever I can. When academic work gets tough or daunting, it\u2019s the communities you\u2019re a part of that lift you up and remind you what's important to you.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n

A collage I put together that reflect #JoyatUoft for me<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nAdvice on being more involved: <\/span>\r\n\r\n-Join a club, organization, or publication! UofT has an insane amount of things going on so it can seem very intimidating. Start with something and build your way up from there. Also, don\u2019t be afraid to leave things that you find out you\u2019re not interested in anymore. Undergrad is short, do what you really love<\/span>\r\n\r\n-If you live on residence, get involved! This will differ from college to college, but consider joining your house council, student government, or just help out at events! <\/span>\r\n\r\n-Make friends with people in your program! Talk to people in tutorials and attend events held by your department<\/span>\r\n\r\n-Follow UofT social media and keep track of events and initiatives happening on a regular basis. This is how most people end up getting involved with something that they\u2019re passionate about (hopefully this blog is helping!)<\/span>\r\n\r\n-Finally, just be open minded! You never know if you\u2019ll like something if you don\u2019t try.\u00a0 The communities you form here will end up being some of your most valuable memories at UofT one day \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
