I knew that U of T had a thing for oak trees (in the crest, ACORN and now Quercus; the Latin name for oak tree...). I had my own story behind this platform where we manage our courses, programs and fees before I found out it stood for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acorn.utoronto.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Accessible Campus Online Resource Network<\/a>. If the oak trees symbolize wisdom and knowledge, and U of T's motto is \"Velut arbor \u00e6vo\", which means as a tree through the ages in Latin; the tree must've started from a seed... An acorn to be exact (IT'S THE CIRCLE OF LIFE! - or knowledge, specifically in this case).\r\n\r\n<strong>EX<\/strong>\r\n\r\nYou'll figure this one out once October rolls around... Answer: Physics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nJust as <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2018\/08\/02\/a-primer-on-extracurricular-activities-my-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simrit<\/a>\u00a0recommended joining extracurricular activities, I found the fastest way I make friends is through student union meetings. These meetings are attended by all levels of undergraduates and allow us to have a say in how our programs or departments are ran. The unions, such as the Physics Student Union (PhySU) usually have a their own lounge for chilling or studying together. Not only can you potentially add executive positions in these unions to your <a href=\"https:\/\/ccr.utoronto.ca\/home.htm\">CCR<\/a> (Co-curricular record), but there's also usually free food at the meetings!\r\n\r\n<strong>CLN<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35160 size-large aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1-1024x624.png\" alt=\"CLN website\" width=\"1024\" height=\"624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1-1024x624.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1-768x468.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2018\/08\/cln1.png 1299w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nWhere I found this job! (P.S. We're currently hiring!!) The <a href=\"https:\/\/cln.utoronto.ca\/notLoggedIn.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Career Learning Network<\/a>\u00a0is a great resource that I'm happy I utilized in first year. I usually carve out time during the week to check for new volunteer, on-and-off campus jobs and research opportunities. The process of applying, being interviewed and being hired has proved to me that U of T has so many opportunities waiting to be tapped into.\r\n\r\n<strong>What's Your POSt?<\/strong>\r\n\r\nOnce first year came to an end, it was time for me to choose a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsci.utoronto.ca\/current\/program\/enrolment-instructions\/index_html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Program of Study<\/a>\u00a0in the <a href=\"https:\/\/fas.calendar.utoronto.ca\/\">FAS<\/a> (Faculty of Arts and Science). With over 700 undergraduate programs to choose from, the process was long but it allowed me to mix and match majors and minors to create a POSt that encompasses things that I'm passionate about.\r\n\r\n<strong>R = Thursday<\/strong>\r\n\r\nA convention I first saw in the syllabus of my first lecture at U of T. I used to think it made no sense but now religiously use when writing the date on my notes. Since Tuesday = T; Thursday = R (but why not H?)\r\n\r\n<figure style=\"width: 552px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgflip.com\/19c7ib.jpg\" alt=\"Futurama meme &quot;Not sure if it's a typo or some kind of acronym&quot;\" width=\"552\" height=\"414\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Creds: crystalrain on imgflip<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nSo the next time someone asks if you want to meet in <a href=\"http:\/\/map.utoronto.ca\/building\/062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ES<\/a>\u00a0to study or if you've decided to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsci.utoronto.ca\/current\/forms-services\/crncr\">CR\/NCR a course<\/a>, don't be afraid to ask what it means!
