My eyes just would not open when the alarm went off at 6AM\u2026I blindly pressed snooze and slept on for another hour.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>FAIL<\/b>.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Day 2: semi-success.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_26698\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26698\" style=\"width: 187px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12325086_10208173916936569_2115248405_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26698\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12325086_10208173916936569_2115248405_n-187x300.jpg\" alt=\"in-bed reading totally counts as a productive activity\" width=\"187\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12325086_10208173916936569_2115248405_n-187x300.jpg 187w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12325086_10208173916936569_2115248405_n.jpg 598w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 187px) 100vw, 187px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26698\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I'll spare you a picture of my bleary-eyed morning face so here's my productive early-riser activity of the day: in-bed reading.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">I did wake up when the alarm rang\u2026.lolled around in bed in a state of semi-consciousness, blearily looked through a couple of readings, questioned my life choices and then finally got out of bed and properly began my rather lazy morning a while later.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Yawn count: 11<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Productivity Level: not bad<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Day 3: actual success!<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12319599_10208173917016571_598849103_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-26699\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12319599_10208173917016571_598849103_n-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"12319599_10208173917016571_598849103_n\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12319599_10208173917016571_598849103_n-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12319599_10208173917016571_598849103_n.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">New approach: as soon as the alarm rang, I threw off my comforter and allowed myself to be exposed to the cold. Quickly brushed my teeth and splashed cold water on my face to properly wake me up. I got a few basic tasks out of the way but found that my concentration and energy levels were quite low throughout the morning. I did try to\u00a0incorporate\u00a0a little warm-up exercise regimen into my routine as suggested by the article and it helped shake off a bit of my\u00a0grogginess.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Yawn count: 10<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Productivity Level: so-so<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Day 4: \u00a0relapse.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">A Skype session with family led to yet another late night and an inability to pry my eyelids open come morning. Cue the all-too-familiar guilt and second FAIL.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Day 5: SUCCESS.<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_26700\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26700\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12305673_10208173971057922_1111153720_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12305673_10208173971057922_1111153720_n-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"I actually left the house before 7 AM and even had the energy to *gasp* smile\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12305673_10208173971057922_1111153720_n-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/12305673_10208173971057922_1111153720_n.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I actually left the house before 7 AM and even had the energy to muster a smile<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">I also realized that a power breakfast was what I was missing in this whole equation to keep my energy levels up.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_1505-e1448940315716.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-26701\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_1505-e1448940315716-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1505\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_1505-e1448940315716-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_1505-e1448940315716-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2015\/11\/IMG_1505-e1448940315716-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">That, along with some upbeat music to start off the day and I was \u00fcber productive.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Yawn count: 5 (three of which I attribute to my horribly complicated political science reading)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Productivity Level: good!<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Day 6: \u00a0I AM SUPERWOMAN<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">I woke up having pressed snooze just once, finished up two\u00a0whole chapters of\u00a0polisci, rewarded myself with some Youtube time and caught up with some old friends for breakfast.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Yawn count: 4<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Productivity level: off the charts!<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Day 7<\/strong>: which is when I am writing this, I feel pretty good! I won\u2019t lie, I\u2019ve been fighting my natural instinct to hit snooze every morning and I\u2019m still not at the <em>sans<\/em>-alarm \u2019natural early riser\u2019 stage but the amount of work I get done in the time I\u2019d otherwise be asleep makes me feel <em>tr\u00e8s tr\u00e8s<\/em> accomplished (can you tell I\u2019ve been working on my French this morning?)<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">\u00a0Over the course of the week, I tried and tested a few little things to help me be as productive as I could come morning- such as keeping my alarm clock (aka my precious cellphone) far away from my bed, forcing me to get up to shut it off, keeping my curtains slightly open so as to let the sunlight stream through, having a short warm-up routine to wake up, and of course, blasting my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/music\/the-50-best-80s-songs\">favourite upbeat songs<\/a> to get me in an energetic mood.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Now that this week is over, though, the real challenge will be to see if I'm able to keep this up for the rest of the month!
