{"id":21292,"date":"2014-09-17T09:39:07","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T13:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/?p=21292"},"modified":"2014-09-15T19:41:13","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T23:41:13","slug":"new-discoveries-u-of-t-art-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2014\/09\/17\/new-discoveries-u-of-t-art-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"New Discoveries: U of T Art Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"During Orientation week I participated in an ask-an-upper-year panel as part of Kickstart Orientation that was held in the University of Toronto Art Centre (UTAC)<\/a>.\r\n\r\nThis was the first time I had been in UTAC and I was totally blown away at how great a space it was.\u00a0Admission to UTAC is free so the other day I went in while killing time before classes to take a longer look.\u00a0There are currently 3 temporary exhibits and 1 permanent exhibit to check out: one consisting of the photographs of Allen Ginsberg<\/a>, one of the photographs of Robert Giard<\/a>, one of the works of AA Bronson<\/a>, and one consisting of\u00a0Byzantine and Post Byzantine Icons<\/a> from the Malcove Collection.\r\n\r\nMy favourite exhibit was \u201cWe Are Continually Exposed to the Flashbulb of Death\u201d: The Photographs of Allen Ginsberg (1953-1996)\u201d. The photographs were amazing and there were timelines around the exhibit that illustrated his life as well as a recording of him speaking playing throughout the room. I also loved the healing tent (shown below) that was part of \u201cAA Bronson: Life and Work\u201d and had to resist the urge to crawl inside with a book.\r\n\r\nI can't believe that I didn't know about this place for the past two years and I will definitely be going back\u00a0very soon!\u00a0\"AA\r\n\r\nAllen Ginsberg Exhibit:\u00a0\"wide<\/a> \"wide<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0\"photographs<\/a> \"close<\/a><\/strong>\r\n\r\nRobert Giard Exhibit:\"photographs<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\"wide\r\n\r\nHave you checked out the U of T Art Centre in the past?
