His soldiers became soft. They ate and drank and slept and relaxed, and when spring came around they were unfit for the tough demands of soldiering.<em> I think you know where this is going . . .\u00a0<\/em>\r\n\r\n<strong>The Holidays are upon us!<\/strong> Well, soon. And over our nearly month-long break, it is <em>tempting, tempting, tempting<\/em> to throw away all cares and concerns and succumb to complete mental and physical abandon.<em> OOH YES!!<\/em>\r\n\r\n<strong>BUT doing so tends to make returning from the Holidays much more arduous.<\/strong> Luckily, there is a beautiful word and a wonderful idea that relates to this exact predicament:\r\n\r\n<strong>Balance\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>A healthy balance between relaxation and reasonable productivity<\/strong> is exactly what the Holidays call for.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what I do:\r\n\r\n<strong>Sleep . . . in<\/strong>.\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_19218\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19218\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/wpmedia.o.canada.com\/2013\/05\/kitten2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19218\" alt=\"http:\/\/wpmedia.o.canada.com\/2013\/05\/kitten2.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/12\/kitten2.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19218\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/wpmedia.o.canada.com\/2013\/05\/kitten2.gif<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>I sprawl in bed throughout the morning.<\/strong> I need the rest. But I always get up <em>before noon.<\/em> It\u2019s a terrible crime to sleep in past noon. Everybody knows that!\r\n\r\n<strong>Eat . . . what I want.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_19219\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19219\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/community.babycenter.com\/post\/a43203493\/always_hungry\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19219\" alt=\"http:\/\/community.babycenter.com\/post\/a43203493\/always_hungry\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/12\/eat-a-lot.gif\" width=\"500\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/community.babycenter.com\/post\/a43203493\/always_hungry<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>I eat only my favourite foods.<\/strong> And I eat a lot of them. My favourite foods provide the best nutrients because my body likes them so much, and I need to <em>replenish my fluids<\/em>. All I eat over the Holidays is shrimp and asparagus. <strong>Warning:<\/strong> This rule could make you <em>hate all your favourite foods.<\/em>\r\n\r\n<strong>Read a book . . . that I enjoy.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_19220\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19220\" style=\"width: 267px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/reederreads.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/funny-gif-baby-reading-book.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19220\" alt=\"http:\/\/reederreads.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/funny-gif-baby-reading-book.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/12\/funny-gif-baby-reading-book.gif\" width=\"267\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19220\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/reederreads.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/funny-gif-baby-reading-book.gif<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>That\u2019s easy because I find every book enjoyable.<\/strong> Reading helps keep my brain active, but<em> not too active<\/em>. I try my best to read a book that has a higher percentage of words than pictures. Pictures books are not books, their called magazines.\r\n\r\n<strong>Talk to someone . . . about nothing.<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_19221\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19221\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtoncouldlearnalot.com\/2013\/09\/gibberish\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19221\" alt=\"http:\/\/washingtoncouldlearnalot.com\/2013\/09\/gibberish\/\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/12\/gibberish-1.gif\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19221\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/washingtoncouldlearnalot.com\/2013\/09\/gibberish\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>I try my best to avoid talking about anything over the Holidays.<\/strong> I like to<em> clear my brain.<\/em> But it\u2019s hard. Conversations are so easily started, and once they get going it\u2019s hard to walk away. The best way to talk about nothing is to eat a lot of your favourite food!\r\n\r\n<strong>Sleep . . . more. <\/strong>\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_19222\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19222\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/o.canada.com\/uncategorized\/watch-these-cats-fall-asleep-in-hilarious-ways\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19222\" alt=\"http:\/\/o.canada.com\/uncategorized\/watch-these-cats-fall-asleep-in-hilarious-ways\/\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/12\/kitten5.gif\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19222\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/o.canada.com\/uncategorized\/watch-these-cats-fall-asleep-in-hilarious-ways\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>Once I\u2019ve done all the other stuff<\/strong>, especially after I\u2019ve eaten some of my favourite food, I find it <em>helpful to go back to sleep<\/em>. Sleep offers priceless restorative powers for both your body and your mind. In fact, most doctors say we should probably sleep at least once every day.\r\n\r\n<strong>And if I feel like it . . . sometimes . . . I review my old study notes.<\/strong> But I don\u2019t really have to explain the merit of that one. You\u2019re a university student.
