Events at U of T"},"content":{"rendered":"I had to return to Cambridge this weekend<\/strong> to help my dad bring in and stack firewood. It\u2019s a yearly chore and it\u2019s fine, because I love woodstove fires in the winter when I visit home. So I left on Thursday, which means I missed a few events at U of T<\/em> that I would have otherwise gladly attended. (#eventsUofT<\/a> what events are you planning to attend?)\r\n\r\n\"UofTevents\"<\/a>\r\n\r\nThe thing about events at U of T<\/strong>, and events in my life more broadly, is that they have the habit of falling on the same day. I cannot count the number of times that for weeks I have no real plans, and then all at once I am invited to four different events, all of which are happening on Saturday!\r\n\r\nBut I can\u2019t really get upset.<\/strong> It\u2019s just one of those little oddities of life! Instead, I have to make a choice. I have to decide what is most important.\r\n\r\nOne of the events that conspired against me this week<\/strong> was Field to Fork<\/a>, a festival for locally farmed food prepared by campus Chefs and accompanied by live musicians!\r\n\r\n

Source:http:\/\/ueat.utoronto.ca\/event\/field-fork-2013\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nFrom what I heard, they were serving a variety of entrees and desserts<\/strong>,\u00a0and each plate was $3\u2014for 10 bucks you were more than full! The food enthusiasts at Ueat <\/a>are responsible for this awesome festival. I wish I had been there. I bet it was delicious, and nutritious!\r\n\r\nThe second event was the opening of Victoria College\u2019s annual Book Sale<\/strong>, also on Thursday. Luckily, the book sale continues until Tuesday Sept. 24<\/em>, but the first day is always the most fun and exciting!\r\n\r\n

Source: http:\/\/holygrailofgifs.tumblr.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nI was fortunate enough to get a preview of the Book Sale this year<\/strong>, and the team of volunteers have done a great job organizing and arranging hundreds, if not thousands, of donated books. It\u2019s really quite a feat when you think of it, and I tip my hat to them<\/em>.\r\n\r\n

Also, for the first time they are offering a selection of vinyl records!\r\n\r\nOn the first day, there was a $3 admission fee<\/strong>, except for TCard holders<\/em>, who got in free. For the rest of the weekend the event is open to everyone! The books are priced separately, ranging from $1 to over $300 for the really old ones.\r\n\r\n

I\u2019ll be back this weekend sometime, so maybe I\u2019ll see you there!\r\n\r\nFirst, I have to stack firewood.<\/strong> I decided that helping my dad was the most important event on my map this week.\r\n\r\nIn second year<\/strong>, The Toronto Spec-Fic Colloquium<\/a> was hosted at Hart House on the same Saturday as a friend's Halloween party. I decided it was more important to go to the colloquium than to have \"early drinks\" with my friends, and now I work for a publishing house because of the connections that I made at the event.\r\n\r\nThere is a lot to do at U of T<\/strong>, and a lot you may miss. But don\u2019t beat yourself up. Most things happen every year.
