Or does it?\r\n\r\n<em>Queue crickets chirping and awkward silence.<\/em>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media.tumblr.com\/2b92964ef0c85424e44647e17eb6db29\/tumblr_inline_mhtc2sbI5s1qz4rgp.gif\" alt=\"image\" \/>\r\n\r\nI have to admit, it\u2019s such a personal topic that many of us (yes, myself included!) feel too uncomfortable talking about it for fear of being judged, misinterpreted or having what we say be accidently leaked to the outside world.\u00a0 But sexual health is an important topic because it touches on issues that can affect every aspect of our lives.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/healthanwellness.utoronto.ca\">Health &amp; Wellness<\/a> provides an interesting solution: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.utoronto.ca\/girl-talk-brings-sex-education-residences\">Girl Talk<\/a>.\u00a0 These sessions address female sexual health and healthy relationships in a safe, informal, inclusive and welcoming way, through open dialogue.\u00a0 The aim of Girl Talk is to provide female UofT students with information <em>they<\/em> want to know, through an anonymous Q&amp;A.\u00a0 The greatest part of this program is that the talks take place in a small group facilitated by a female nursing student, and can be arranged by any group of girls (women) as long as there is a private room on campus to host it in.\r\n\r\nGirl Talk seeks to debunk myths and give women accurate information that can help them to make informed decisions about their health in addition to building self-efficacy when it comes to negotiating safer sex practices. \u00a0\u00a0For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancercare.on.ca\/pcs\/screening\/cervscreening\/\">the new Pap test guidelines<\/a> set out by Cancer Care Ontario now recommend that women over the age of 21 and who are or who have been sexually active get a Pap test every three years.\u00a0 This is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/health\/story\/2012\/08\/14\/cervical-cancer-pap-test-guidelines.html\">different from <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/media.tumblr.com\/c8217620233f15a5fe21115342d98b69\/tumblr_inline_mi2djkfgp61qz4rgp.gif\" alt=\"image\" width=\"282\" height=\"150\" \/>Health Canada<\/a>, which recommended annual screening beginning at 18.\u00a0 So what do these changes mean and how can they affect our health?\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure, are you?\r\n\r\nMoreover, Talking and being informed about sexual health does not have to be limited to individuals that are sexually active.\u00a0 In fact, it\u2019s just as important, if not more so, to know what you\u2019re getting into <em>before<\/em> you get into it.\u00a0 Deciding to become sexually active or not is a choice that we all will make at different times in our lives.\u00a0 For many people, this can often be a life-changing decision.\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t you like to be prepared?\r\n\r\nSo whether you are sexually active or not, if you would like to know more about your body and sexual health, why not attend a Girl Talk session.\r\n\r\nWe\u2019re here in university to learn.\u00a0 However, that learning doesn\u2019t have to be solely academic.\u00a0 Would you write an exam without studying for it? \u00a0Probably not!\u00a0 Get informed about your sexual health--book Girl Talk and learn how to be sexually healthy.\r\n<p align=\"center\">Let\u2019s Talk!<\/p>\r\n- Vivian\r\n\r\nInterested in arranging for a Girl Talk session?\u00a0 Feel free to contact nicole.martucci@utoronto.ca or Kathryn.Haworth@utoronto.ca","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\n<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nGirls like to talk (I\u2019m sure many guys can attest to that!).\u00a0 When we\u2019re out with our girlfriends, it seems like every topic is fair game.
