{"id":15821,"date":"2013-01-25T11:02:15","date_gmt":"2013-01-25T16:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/?p=15821"},"modified":"2014-09-09T09:53:45","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T13:53:45","slug":"have-you-dropped-in-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2013\/01\/25\/have-you-dropped-in-yet\/","title":{"rendered":"Have you &#8220;dropped-in&#8221; yet?"},"content":{"rendered":"So with the temperature plummeting recently, and my motivation for any outdoor exercise plummeting with it, I\u2019ve been taking advantage of the\u00a0<strong>FREE drop-in fitness <\/strong>classes offered at both the <a href=\"http:\/\/physical.utoronto.ca\/FitnessAndRecreation\/Drop_In_Programs.aspx\">Athletic Centre (AC<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/harthouse.ca\/fitness\/drop-in-fitness\/\">Hart House<\/a>.\r\n\r\nI think those classes are absolutely the BEST idea. What I especially love about them is that it means I don\u2019t have to come to the gym with a workout plan. I don\u2019t have to think about what machines I should use, how many reps to do, or how many seconds to hold a pose. All I have to do is show up, follow the instructor\u2019s lead, and before I know it the class is over and I\u2019m done my workout for the day!\r\n\r\nI\u2019ve tried a bunch of different classes during my time at U of T. Read on to see what I thought, and make sure to check out the full <strong>schedules<\/strong> for both <a href=\"http:\/\/harthouse.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/fitsch.Winter13A.pdf\">Hart House<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/physical.utoronto.ca\/docs\/faculty-external-review-documents\/2013-winter-drop_in-group-fitness-schedule---7-jan---7-apr-2013---updated-24-january-2013.pdf?sfvrsn=0\">AC<\/a>!\r\n\r\n<strong>Boot Camp<\/strong>\r\n<em>Hart House \u2013 Mon, Wed, Thurs<\/em>\r\n\r\nThis is by far the most intense of all the classes I\u2019ve tried and I\u2019m still hoping I can find a way to fit it into my schedule this semester. Even though my entire body was sore the next day, I felt so good about myself for toughing it out for those 45 minutes. If you are ready to work your butt off, but just need a boost of motivation, then definitely give this a try. <strong>Dustin<\/strong>, the instructor I had, won\u2019t tolerate any slacking!\r\n\r\n<strong>Zumba<\/strong>\r\n<em>Hart House \u2013 Tues, Wed, Fri\r\nAC \u2013 Mon, Wed, Fri<\/em>\r\n\r\nAh, Zumba. The class where it doesn\u2019t really matter that you have no idea what you are doing cuz everyone else is pretty much in the same boat. I, for example, have terrible hand-eye-hip coordination, but nonetheless enjoy dancing around (as best as I can) to the upbeat music. I actually have only been to the class at Hart House, but a friend had really good things to say about the Friday class at the AC too.\r\n\r\n<figure id=\"attachment_15823\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15823\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/01\/Copy-of-zumba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15823\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/01\/Copy-of-zumba-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/01\/Copy-of-zumba-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/01\/Copy-of-zumba-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/files\/2013\/01\/Copy-of-zumba-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15823\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zumba at the AC!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n<strong>Triple Blast<\/strong>\r\n<em>AC \u2013 Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat<\/em>\r\n\r\nI just tried this out a few weeks ago, and it\u2019s challenging, but I love it! This class is a mix of cardio, core and all over muscle-toning moves. This is another one of those classes you are probably going to be sore from the next day, but it really is worth it. I\u2019ve told a friend about it and we are hoping to make it a weekly thing this semester!\r\n\r\n<strong>Super Circuit<\/strong>\r\n<em>Hart House \u2013 Tues, Wed, Thurs<\/em>\r\n\r\nI\u2019ve been going to this class about once a week since last fall, and it\u2019s a great <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2012\/10\/05\/the-morning-workout-and-why-its-worth-a-shot\/\">morning\r\nworkout<\/a>! There are two different instructors and they both have very different routines. <strong>Amanda\u2019s<\/strong> class is a lot of strength and balance work that incorporates moves like squats and arm-raises with the use of free weights and a body bar. <strong>Daniella\u2019s <\/strong>class is a total body workout \u2013 there\u2019s lots of cardio using the <a href=\"http:\/\/pics.hoobly.com\/full\/k3xcUqBmV2.jpg\">step<\/a> and a good amount of leg and arm work with weights, body bar and\/or resistance band. Both instructors play great music to keep you going, so either way you are guaranteed a good workout!\r\n\r\nNow, I mentioned being sore after a good workout.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/25.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m8prk3UW7p1qzzfzro1_400.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/25.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m8prk3UW7p1qzzfzro1_400.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nOk it shouldn\u2019t be THAT bad\u2026 Ha-ha! But don\u2019t get discouraged if you feel achy and sore all over.
