{"id":14220,"date":"2012-10-18T16:37:13","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T20:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/?p=14220"},"modified":"2014-09-09T10:01:23","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T14:01:23","slug":"all-night-long","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2012\/10\/18\/all-night-long\/","title":{"rendered":"All Night Long"},"content":{"rendered":"<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nqAvFx3NxUM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n\r\nAs a result of all the midterms and assignments that have been piled on my plate in the last week, I can now say that I have successfully pulled off my first all-nighter of the year.\r\n\r\nI know I\u2019ve been told more times than I can count that it\u2019s unhealthy to do all-nighters and I don\u2019t disagree.\u00a0 Far from it.\u00a0 I know the havoc that staying up all night to study or write an essay can do to you, both physically and mentally \u2013 I just experienced it.\u00a0 But, when I\u2019m feeling overwhelmed, I can\u2019t help myself; I fall into this cycle of procrastination \u2013 leaving everything until the very last minute and then having no choice but to pull an all-nighter to get it all completed.\r\n\r\nAnd the effects of putting my body through all that stress really started showing up when I went to class the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">morning after<\/span>: my hands were jittery, I could barely type, and the professor\u2019s voice started to sound much like the teacher\u2019s voice from Charlie Brown.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/25.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_lwupawnyWn1r7ms4po1_250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"232\" \/>\r\n\r\nEven worse, I crashed the moment I got home and woke up in the wee hours of the morning and wasn\u2019t able to get back to sleep.\u00a0 Now, a few days later, I\u2019m still trying to get my internal clock back to normal so I\u2019m not wide-awake at 3 a.m. \u00a0and then sleeping \u2018til noon.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/25.media.tumblr.com\/tumblr_m6e2hoZQTl1qdqlx3o1_500.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"220\" \/>\r\n\r\nTo be completely honest, I will probably pull another all-nighter sometime this year, but this most recent experience has certainly given me food for thought.\u00a0 I asked myself, do I <em>really<\/em> want to put my body and mind through this ordeal again, if I can avoid it?\u00a0 The answer is a solid <strong>no<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nSo, to minimize the chance of a repeat, I\u2019m going to take a look at some resources on campus to help me with my habit of procrastinating.\u00a0 \u00a0I checked out the Academic Success Centre (ASC) for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asc.utoronto.ca\/Helpful-Links.htm\">some workshops<\/a> and there are some that I\u2019m definitely interested in going to.\u00a0 Obviously, the workshops on procrastination and essay writing can be helpful.\u00a0 I\u2019m also intrigued by the session on time management and setting goals.\u00a0 The bottom line is that procrastination is an added and an unnecessary stress that I want to avoid, if at all possible, for the rest of the year!\r\n\r\nTo my fellow procrastinators out there, who are also looking to kick the habit, are there any tips or tricks that have worked for you in getting things done so as to avoid those dreaded all-nighters?\r\n\r\n- Vivian","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\n<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nAs a result of all the midterms and assignments that have been piled on my plate in the last week, I can now say that I have successfully pulled off my first all-nighter of the year.
