In fact, despite the hipster Starbucks stereotype spread by people and politicians, for many students making every penny count is important. Commuting, rent money, food, it all adds up. \u00a0In addition to attending classes and writing tests, some of us scrape out what we can from part time jobs.\r\n\r\nNow, this is not a political piece calling for more investment in post secondary education and support for students. \u00a0I just decided to start with that to remind the government yet again that students are suffering from the OSAP blues (I feel your pain fellow students). Until the government decides that post secondary education is a priority, I've got a list of free and cheap things on campus this week! Cause everybody loves free things. \ud83d\ude42\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #339966\"><strong><span style=\"color: #339966\">Free\/Cheap Food and Beverages \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Tea and Cookies at the UC Union <\/span>\u00a0- <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">FREE<\/span>\r\n<em>Grab free tea and cookies at the UC Union.<\/em>\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Mon-Thurs, 2:30-3:30 pm.\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>The UC Union buildings (houses the Commuter Students Centre), right next door to Whitney Hall.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.multifaith.utoronto.ca\/Events-And-Programs\/Muffin-Madness-2011-2012.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Muffin Madness at the Multi Faith Centre<\/a><\/span>\u00a0 -\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">FREE<\/span>\r\n<em>Get free muffins, tea, coffee and juice at the Multi Faith Centre! \ud83d\ude00\u00a0<\/em>\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Wednesday, 4 PM.\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>The Multi Faith Centre, also known as Koffler House. Behind the GSU Pub and the Earth Sciences Centre.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/News___Events\/Victoria_College_Events\/pancakes.htm?ViewMode=View&amp;DateTime=634576428000000000&amp;PageMode=View\" target=\"_blank\">Pancake Brunch<\/a><\/span> -<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u00a0FREE<\/span>\r\n<em>Get free pancakes at Victoria College. \ud83d\ude42<\/em>\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Wednesday, 11 AM - 1 PM.\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Cat's Eye at\u00a0Birge Carnegie building, Victoria College.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.assu.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Cheap Soda at ASSU<\/a><\/span> - <span style=\"color: #339966\">50 cents per can.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<em>Get non name brand soda at ASSU for 50 cents.\u00a0<\/em>\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Whenever ASSU office is open, see <a href=\"http:\/\/assu.ca\/about\/contact-us\" target=\"_blank\">here for hours<\/a>.\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Sidney Smith Hall, Room 1068.\r\n\r\n<strong>Look out for events run by clubs, UTSU, EngSoc and your local college, free food is always found at these events.\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/harthouse.ca\/events\/5-buck-lunch\/\" target=\"_blank\">Five Buck Lunch at Hart House<\/a><\/span> - <span style=\"color: #339966\">Five Bucks<\/span>.\r\n<em>Get a five dollar lunch at Hart House.\u00a0<\/em>\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Every Wednesday, 11:30 am - 1:3o pm.\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Great Hall, Hart House.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>Student Run Establishments - Support the little guy! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\r\nMost of these are cheap, or at least cheaper than what you would get at other places. The best part is that when you spend here, you know you're putting your money in a good place.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DiabolosCoffeeBar\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Diabolos Coffee Shop<\/span>\r\n<\/a><em>Great fair trade coffee. Arguably some of the best coffee on campus according to some. 1$ coffee available here. <span style=\"color: #339966\">Vegan friendly.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>The Junior Common Room, University College.\r\n<strong>When: <\/strong>\u00a0Mon-Friday, 9 am- 6pm.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hardhatcafe\">Hardhat Cafe\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\r\n<em>It's food for the hungry engineer. Managed by EngSoc. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966\">Halal and Veggie options available.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Basement of Stanford Flemming Building.\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Mon-Friday, 9 am-6 pm.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/harvestnoon.com\/\">Harvest Noon<\/a><\/span>\r\n<em>Great local organic food, menu varies from week to week. <span style=\"color: #339966\">Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free options\u00a0available. \u00a0<\/span><\/em>\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Graduate Students Union Building, second floor.\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Mon-Friday, 1o am-2 pm.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hotyam.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hot Yam\u00a0<\/a><\/span>\r\n<em>A food collective that has nutritious, organic, local food. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966\"><em>Vegan.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/em>\r\n<strong>Where: \u00a0<\/strong>Cumberland House.\r\n<strong>When: \u00a0<\/strong>Wednesday,\u00a012 pm - 2 pm .\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Cheap Thrills - Entertainment\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Free admission to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.varsityblues.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Varsity Blues<\/a> games (with valid T-Card). <span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Do you bleed blue?<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li>Free admission on Tuesdays to post secondary students at the ROM (with valid T-Card\/student ID).<\/li>\r\n\t<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harthousetheatre.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hart House Theatre<\/a> shows, $10 student pricing on Wednesdays (with valid T-Card).<\/li>\r\n\t<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cinssu.ca\/blog\/?p=957\" target=\"_blank\">Free movies<\/a> shown at Innis College, every Friday night at 7 pm at Innis Town Hall.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Borrow movies from the <a href=\"http:\/\/mediacommons.library.utoronto.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Media Commons<\/a> at Robarts Library.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/utsu.ca\/section\/3\" target=\"_blank\">UTSU Services<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\r\n\r\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/utsu.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">UTSU <\/a>isn't only the place where you can get your discounted TTC metropass. It offers discounted movie and sports tickets, a free handbook (agenda\/planner), and 2 cent photocopying among other things. Make sure to visit your union and find out what services they have to offer you.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color: #993366\"><strong>Misc. Services<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Past test library at ASSU.<\/span> \u00a0Browse through the library of past midterms and photocopy what you need. Photocopies are 10 cents per page. \u00a0ASSU does sell past test packages for first years as midterms approach. If you use this service, please help maintain it and donate your past tests.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Free phones<\/span>, available at UTSU and the Junior Common Room. \u00a0Other college councils may have this service as well.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"color: #339966\">Engineers!<\/span> First years buy your textbooks at the Engineering Store. Much cheaper than at the U of T Bookstore. Also, Engineers get free printing (its included in your\u00a0tuition\u00a0fees, watch your quota though). - <em>kudos to the Engineering brother for this info.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\r\n\t<li><span style=\"color: #800080\">Pick up a free Toronto Star newspaper<\/span> at Sidney Smith or at University College.
