Your Guide to Peer Groups at U of T Student Life

Many peer groups at ⁠U of T Student Life offer unique support to help students thrive. Whether you're looking for academic tips, housing advice, career guidance, or just someone to talk to, there's a peer service designed to meet you where you're at. Read on to learn about the different peer groups, their availability and how to reach out.

Active September to March and June/July
Accessibility Peer Advisors support students who are registered (or are considering registering) with Accessibility Services at U of T. They offer guidance on registering for and navigating accommodations, speaking to profs, managing academic life, and accessing campus resources.

When & How to Connect
Sessions are available in-person at 455 Spadina Ave. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 – 4pm. You can also chat with an Accessibility Peer Advisor online on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 – 4pm. All sessions are drop-in and no registration is needed!

Active September to November, January to March and May to mid-August (whenever classes are running)
CLSS (Centre for Learning Strategy Support) Peer Mentors offer personalized support to help students build effective learning strategies, manage time, and navigate academic challenges. They’re trained to assist with study techniques, motivation, and goal setting.

When & How to Connect
Virtual appointments are available regularly throughout the week (Monday to Friday). Check out this list of experienced U of T students to find your ideal Peer Mentor, then book an appointment on Folio.

Active late September to April
The Health & Wellness Peer Support Service offers drop-in, confidential, one-to-one peer support for U of T students navigating mental health, wellness, and personal challenges. Peer supporters are trained students who provide a safe, non-judgmental space to talk, share experiences and learn about resources.

When & How to Connect
Drop-in sessions are available in-person, Monday to Friday from 11am – 4pm, as follows:

  • Robarts Library, Room 1152 (Mondays to Fridays)
  • Engineering and Computer Science Library, Group Study Room A (Wednesdays only)
  • Student Commons, Room 246 (Thursdays only)

Virtual peer support drop-ins are also available on Zoom from Wednesday to Friday, 11am – 4pm.

Active mid-October to end of November, January to end of March, and mid-May to mid-August
Housing Peer Advisors are upper-year students at Housing Services and First Nations House (for Indigenous students) with rental experience in Toronto who are trained to provide advice on your housing search. They offer one-on-one appointments and can support you with navigating rentals, dealing with landlords, and finding safe, affordable housing options.

Housing Peer Advisors also offer URent: Finding a Place workshops throughout the year. You can register for these events on Folio.

Active late Fall semester to late Winter semester
The Indigenous Peer Group Mentorship program connects First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students at U of T with upper-year Indigenous peers within a group structure. Mentors offer cultural support, guidance, and help navigating university life to promote community and belonging. The program runs throughout the academic year (starting late Fall semester and continuing into the Winter semester) and includes group events and cultural activities.

When & How to Connect
Students can find applications for both mentees and mentors on Folio. The group meets bi-weekly starting in late Fall and running throughout the Winter semester; dates and times are determined by the best availability of the group. Active October to March
Mentor Navigators are caring upper-year students from African Black CaribbeanLatin AmericanSoutheast Asian & First Generation Student Engagement. They help U of T students connect with peers who share similar identities to explore involvement opportunities, navigate university life, build community and access relevant campus resources.

Active October to February and June/July
Peer Career Advisors offer three types of one-on-one, 30-minute sessions to support students and recent alumni with their careers: Resume and Cover Letter, Interview Prep, and Career Start.

Peer Career Program Facilitators also host tons of workshops on various topics from interview strategies to LinkedIn tips, plus employer engagement events. Check out the Career Exploration & Education webpage for more info and sign up for workshops on CLNx.

When & How to Connect
Book an appointment on CLNx or through the online chat on the Career Exploration & Education homepage up to one week in advance; "just-in-time" slots open the day before by 10:30am. New slots are released daily at 9am, and cancellations may free up additional times.
