Things to Do in Toronto: Summer Edition

Whether you’re a first-year student just getting to know the city or a seasoned undergrad looking for new spots to explore, being at the University of Toronto means you’re right in the heart of one of Canada’s most vibrant cities. From scenic sunset views and buzzing patios to cozy coffee shops and hidden gems, here’s a curated list of things that Yashvit and Jess recommend you do in Toronto—on a student budget, of course!

1. Catch a beautiful sunset: Between essays and late-night study grinds, you deserve a break. Witness a beautiful sunset at Riverdale Park East, Trillium Park, or Polson Pier.

2. Explore coffee shops: My new favourite coffee shops are Hailed Coffee at College Park, 10 Dean on Elm Street, and Dual Citizen at the Sheraton Hotel. Some of them offer a patio experience, too!

3. Arts and culture: The Art Gallery of Ontario offers free admission for students under 25; there's also Kensington Market just a short walk away from campus, which is full of vintage shops, global food spots, and murals on every corner.

4. Be in nature: High Park is known as Toronto's version of Central Park and features a zoo, a pond, and various gardens. There's also Allan Gardens, an indoor botanical garden with multiple greenhouses where you can spot turtles and koi fish!

5. Channel your inner child: Located steps away from campus, you can play arcade games at FreePlay Retro Arcade for an entry fee of $5 on Sunday through Thursday and $10 on Fridays and Saturdays. If board games are more your vibe, check out Snakes & Lattes or Twilight Cafe!

7. Enjoy a sunny day on the beach: Yes, that's right! Toronto has beaches in the city! Take the ferry or a water taxi to the Toronto Island beaches, or check out Woodbine Beach or Bluffer's Beach on the east side of the city.
