Leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 30, it is important to be intentional about what we learn, unlearn and re-learn as adults and help children learn and understand the significance of the day. To help support this learning, the Family Care Office has compiled resources to help you and your family. 

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On Monday, September 30, people across Canada wear orange shirts to continue to raise awareness of the impact of the residential school system and commit to supporting reconciliation. When purchasing an orange shirt, it is important to buy one from stores and organizations whose profits from the shirt sales go to Indigenous-led organizations.   

• The Cedar Basket, at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto.
• Turtle Lodge Trading Post, $8 from every Orange Shirt Purchase is donated to the Orange Shirt Society, with an additional $2 being donated to Ginawaydaganuc Village.
• U of T Orange Shirt Day Tee, $10 from the sale of each shirt will be directed to the Orange Shirt Society with no proceeds going to the bookstore or U of T.
