Student feedback and input is critically important to Student Life services and programs. Several units, including Accessibility Services, Academic Success, TCard, Housing Services, the Multi Faith Centre, Health & Wellness, the Centre for International Experience, and the Centre for Community Partnerships, established or updated the terms of reference for their Student Advisory Committees. These committees, along with the established student feedback mechanisms in other units, provide important information to Student Life units on operations.
In fall 2022, all units were invited to nominate representatives from their advisory committees or closely associated students to form the Student Life Advisory Council. Led by two student co-chairs, this council, alongside UTSU, GSU, and APUS representatives, met six times during its inaugural year, leaving a lasting impact on the student-centric landscape.
One significant achievement was the creation of the Budget Committee, which recommended operating plans and budgets for approval by the Council on Student Services. The council also contributed valuable feedback on some Student Life Communications collateral and an eModule for student leaders on making effective referrals.
The council highlighted the diverse services of each unit and shared insights and recommendations from their respective committees.
Feedback from the inaugural Student Life Advisory Council has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants expressing their enthusiasm for the expanding impact of the council. The 2022-2023 academic year marked a large step forward in the commitment to creating a vibrant, student-centric community.
