The Centre for International Experience supported instructors across the University to develop and implement Global Classrooms as a part of the Global at Home programming, providing enriching global experiences for students without physical travel.
Through the Global Classrooms program, instructors collaborated with partners across the world to bring different perspectives and approaches into their courses. In Professor Pedro Mateo’s Introduction to Indigenous Languages of the Americas course, students heard from guest speakers joining virtually from Guatemala, Mexico and the United States about Indigenous languages in their countries.
Professor Wanja Gitari collaborated with the University of Nairobi in Kenya for the course titled Educating for Humanitarian Goals Locally and Globally: How is Science Education helping? In this course, students from U of T were able to learn alongside peers from the University of Nairobi and benefit from instruction from both institutions. The types of global classrooms this year were diverse, leveraged the learning experience for students, and expanded how we partner with institutions and community organizations around the world.
