The Orientation Transition and Engagement unit within Student Engagement worked in partnership with a dynamic team of six undergraduate students, under the guidance of Professor John Robinson in ENV461: The U of T Campus as a Living Lab of Sustainability. Focused on enhancing the procurement of sustainable swag for orientation week, the team conducted interviews, surveys and site visits to develop comprehensive recommendations. Their insights culminated in the creation of a guide supporting sustainable decision-making for orientation coordinators (OCs).
This pioneering guide, a testament to the students’ dedication, has been integrated into OC training, fostering environmentally conscious practices within the University’s orientation initiatives. The impact extends beyond campus borders; the project was showcased at the recent CACUSS conference, reaching a wider audience of educational professionals.
