In 2022 as war broke out in Ukraine, the University of Toronto received a $3.2-million donation from the Temerty Foundation to accommodate students whose studies were disrupted through the KMA exchange program, an exchange initiative between U of T’s Faculty of Arts & Science and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
With the support of Deans, CIE facilitated a special pathway for displaced students from Ukraine which meant U of T was able to quickly support 292 semester spots for students impacted by the war.
The Centre for International Experience facilitated the exchange initiative and Housing Services supported the arrival of the students from Ukraine, helping them arrange secure and safe housing in U of T student residences and providing quarantine accommodations when necessary.
