As a result of obtaining a VLS eCampus Ontario grant, and in true collaborative fashion, the “Hiring and Engaging Diverse Student Talent: Employer Toolkit” was developed across all three campuses of the University of Toronto and in collaboration with seven other provincial by colleagues across the U of T tri-campus, and seven postsecondary institutions across Ontario.
This three-module series is a free, open-source resource for employers and practitioners that will change the world of work. These modules offer strategies, interactive activities, downloadable templates and more, to support employers and hiring managers implement and grow their knowledge of inclusive and equitable practices – from hiring and onboarding, to thriving in the workplace.
The primary goal of this initiative is to increase access to work, while creating more inclusive workplaces with students and recent graduates, ensuring meaningful career opportunities for all. By acknowledging and tackling the inequities prevalent in the labor market, the toolkit empowers employers to play an active role in fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
This coordinated project draws on the wealth of subject matter knowledge in the career and experiential learning field. Anchored in principles, research and literature related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, the toolkit serves as a comprehensive resource for employers, post-secondary staff, and any individual seeking to hire and support the success of diverse students and recent graduates navigating the ever-evolving landscape of the workplace.
