This event welcomed 40 students (undergraduate and graduate) and recent graduates from the University of Toronto, York University, Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), Trent University, Centennial College, Seneca College and Humber College. Students represented the following programs of study and more: Indigenous studies, Public Health, Engineering, Accounting, Biotech, Business, Social Work, Finance & Economics, Psychology & Sociology and Chemistry.
One student shared the following: Today I had the chance to attend the Canadian Roots Exchange booth at the fair. I enjoyed a chance to learn of 2 employment opportunities. One of them is a jr. policy analyst job on a year contract. CRE also offers youth groups and guidance. It was nice to have a discussion about networking in the indigenous community. I had the opportunity to share about my own heritage/experience as a Caribbean woman who is also indigenous.
A number of employers participated in this event, with at least 400 showcase views overall: Miziwe Biik, Canada Roots Exchange, Ontario Federation Indigenous Friendship Centres, Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health, Katimavik, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, U of T KPE, Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, Metrolinx, U of T Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, Native Mens Residence, Canada Pension Plan, Native Child and Family Services Toronto, Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, and Rogers Communications.
An employer shared the following: Thank you again for organizing today’s career fair! It was great to meet students and see where they want to head. Please continue to share information that Waakebiness can take part in and let us know if there’s anything the Institute can do to support you both.
