Greetings Campus Leaders,

The Center for Community partnerships would like to invite student groups to this years’ Alternative Reading Week: Community Service Project Planning.

The Community Service Project Planning will be taking place at the CCP in the Koffler House, 569 Spadina on Friday Oct 2nd from 2 to 4pm.

This year, with The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) taking the lead, University of Toronto is taking on one of the biggest project of the year and we are in need for your expertise, talents and energy.

For almost 30 years, the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) has been the leader of community economic development in the York Region. They offer programs and services which include:

-skill training in areas where there are local jobs
-job search
-counselling
-self-employment training and support (training enterprises including LEF Wood Works and Cooks Training for at risk youth)
-Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes and literacy classes, a training loan fund, several social enterprises, -18 child care centers
-16 Before & After School Programs
-a kitchen in which LEF prepares 500 meals a day (partnership with Second Harvest) to go to agencies which serve the homeless. -provides a hearty soup lunch to all clients in the building every Thursday
-and much more…

During Feb 16-19, our highlighting project will be building a town square within a warehouse space where U of T students, staffs and families can gather, share and celebrate the difference we have made for our neighborhoods.

Intensive planning have already gone underway. Between now to Reading week, we will be developing projects collaborations with the LEF and U of T student groups, from English conversation circle to film-making. There is a million ways for your group to showcase your unlimited creativity for these projects.

Can’t wait to get started? But couldn’t make it, please feel free to contact karen.mccrank@utoronto.ca and we will be happy to send you an information package and answer any question you may have.

Student Life Programs is delighted to announce ambitious changes to Toolkit. For those unfamiliar with Toolkit, here’s the scoop: The Toolkit Team is dedicated to collaborating with you and provide the support you want to build your student organization and enhance your extracurricular experience.

We are expanding Toolkit into an interactive online experience with resources including this blog and downloadable tip-sheets on several topics. With input from various campus groups, we have designed Toolkit to address the resources, support and development needs of Student Groups.

We envision Toolkit emerging into a sustainable online learning environment focused on expanding the opportunities for student group members. Our goal is to continue to assist students like you; involved and active leaders outside of the classroom. We hope you take advantage of these resources and work with us to make the Campus Group experience even more fulfilling!
