Don\u2019t allow yourselves to be fooled by how miserably grey it looks outdoors \u2013 summer will soon be upon us. Well, by \u201csummer\u201d, I mean the end of the 2010-2011 school year. And with the end of this semester comes, for many students, the need to be gainfully employed until September rolls around again. <\/span>There is a wealth of information out there but when you\u2019re beginning your job hunt, being overwhelmed by boatloads of websites, job-hunting tips, etc. is the last thing that you probably need. With that said \u2013 where\u2019s a good place to start?<\/p>\n

The university\u2019s Career Centre<\/a> is an invaluable resource. By signing up on their website, you\u2019ll gain access to their database of available jobs - both internal (on-campus employment) and external (off-campus). <\/span>The Career Centre is located on the ground floor of the Koffler Building at St. George and College, and offers job fairs, resume clinics, career and employment counselling, practice interviews, \u00a0and various workshops and seminars.<\/p>\n

Also, when you sign in to the portal<\/a>, click on the \u201cWork at U of T\u201d link (located on the bottom left hand corner of the portal home screen). This will lead you to the \u201cJobs @ UofT\u201d home page<\/a>. On the left side there are several more links to click on \u2013 the links most useful to students are the \u201cUTemp\u201d page, and the \u201cJobs For Students\u201d page.<\/p>\n

UTemp<\/a> is the on-campus temporary employment agency for U of T students, and covers not just summer employment, but also casual vacancies throughout the school year. When you join UTemp, you will first have to fill out an on line application form, and upload a copy of your resume.<\/p>\n

On a side note, although the Work-Study Program is not summer employment, it's a great opportunity to work on campus. <\/span>Positions run from September through March, and the application deadline is in October of each year. If you are interested in employment throughout the school year, keep an eye on their website for updated deadline dates<\/a>. Remember that obtaining a work-study position may lower the amount of OSAP that you are eligible for.<\/p>\n
