It seems cruel that Winter with a capital W finally decided to kick in during the one week we don\u2019t have school. But to make the most of these frigid temperatures, I\u2019ve spent this Reading Week doing exactly that \u2014 reading. Personally, the obvious choice is to power through the entire Harry Potter series (7 books, 7 days of Reading Week? This was clearly meant to be). However, since I\u2019ve done this exact feat on at least 12 different occasions, I thought I\u2019d branch out. Here\u2019s what\u2019s been on my Reading Radar for the 2016 Reading Week:\r\n\r\n<!--more--><span class=\"s1\"><b><span style=\"color: #333399\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/nylon\/image\/upload\/t_featured_images-max,f_auto,fl_lossy,q_80\/featured_images\/attachments\/000\/017\/878\/aziz-ansari.jpg\" alt=\"Book cover for Modern Romance.\" width=\"230\" height=\"345\" \/><\/span><\/b><\/span><b><em><b><span style=\"color: #333399\">Sunday, Feb. 14\r\n<\/span><\/b><\/em><\/b><b><em>Modern Romance<\/em> - Aziz Ansari<\/b><b>\r\n<\/b><span class=\"s1\">Single or taken this past Valentine\u2019s Day, this book is a lighthearted and approachable read on dating and romance in the modern age. Narrated by the lovable Aziz Ansari (<em>see also: Parks &amp; Rec, Master of None<\/em>), this book discusses how technology has played a role in building relationships in the 21st century. There are even sections outlining psychology experiments and human sociology so I guess this sort of falls under the category of Education???<\/span>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong><em><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"color: #333399\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net\/harrypotter\/images\/f\/f0\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Half-Blood_Prince.jpg\/revision\/latest?cb=20150208231310\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"335\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><em><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"color: #333399\">Monday, Feb. 15<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/strong>\r\nHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince<\/em> - J.K. Rowling<\/strong>\r\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">OKAY I COULDN\u2019T NOT PUT A HARRY POTTER BOOK IN THIS LIST. Plus for Family Day, this is a classic family favourite and you can all watch the movie together afterwards for bonding time. (Half-Blood Prince is the\u00a0self-proclaimed\u00a0best book in the series - I am willing to fully defend this position to any avid HP fans!!)<\/span><\/p>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/d28hgpri8am2if.cloudfront.net\/book_images\/onix\/cvr9781451697391\/this-changes-everything-9781451697391_hr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\r\n<strong><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><span style=\"color: #333399\">Tuesday, Feb. 16\r\n<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><em>This Changes Everything<\/em> - Naomi Klein\r\n<\/strong><span class=\"s1\">Perhaps you or someone you know has made a comment about how this winter\u2019s fluctuating weather can be attributed to the effects of climate change and global warming. Klein\u2019s book (forewarning: it\u2019s a lengthy one) explains the relationship between the climate crisis and current economic and political structures. They call it Reading Week because we all\u00a0have midterms and assignments due afterwards and will be reading diligently (debatable) from our lecture slides and textbooks. Don\u2019t let a week-long break catch you off guard!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399\">\r\n<\/span><\/strong><strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/media.npr.org\/assets\/artslife\/books\/2010\/01\/gamechange_custom-s6-c30.jpg?t=1312420730\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"343\" \/><strong><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #333399\">Thursday, Feb. 18<\/span><\/strong>\r\nGame Change<\/em> - John Heilemann and Mark Halperin<\/strong>\r\n<span class=\"s1\">For anyone keeping up with American politics, this book details the operations of the campaigns for the 2008 presidential election. I first discovered her work through her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/rupikaur_\/\">Instagram<\/a> account. Where did Reading Week go!! It\u2019s usually around this time I start panicking about having wasted away my whole week. So a short read is fitting. Garcia Marquez is one of my favourite authors and I remember having read this novella in high school English class. Chronicle of a Death Foretold tells the story of the death of a local townsman from different perspectives of people involved. It is wonderfully written and the Colombian setting is described so well it\u2019s like you\u2019re right there in the country, away from all this wind and snow.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">asdfasdf<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.psu.edu\/findyourroar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27765\/2015\/07\/malala.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"348\" \/> <strong><span class=\"s1\">Sunday, Feb. 21<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<\/span><\/strong><\/span><strong><span class=\"s1\"><em>I Am Malala<\/em> - Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb\r\n<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\">Malala is a personal role model of mine and her autobiography is the perfect means to inspire myself back into the UofT grind. The memoir is not just a celebration of her humanitarian efforts, but a reminder of how lucky I am to be receiving the education that I have. This book certainly serves as excellent motivation the Sunday before school starts!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">asdfasdf<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">asdfasdf<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">asdfsd\r\n<\/span>Looking to find a new book to read? The <a href=\"http:\/\/uoftbookstore.com\/\">Bookstore<\/a> actually contains more than just textbooks (check the second floor!). As well, there are fall\u00a0sales in Robarts,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uc.utoronto.ca\/book-shop\">UC<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinity.utoronto.ca\/library_archives\/friends\/book_sale.html\">Trinity<\/a>, and other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booksalefinder.com\/utgeneral.html\">colleges<\/a>. Be sure to stop by next autumn and take a look (or a read). Past blogger Amie made an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/lifeatuoft\/2014\/09\/24\/for-the-love-of-books-used-booksales-on-campus\/\">photo post<\/a> about her experience at the Vic sale.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"p1\">Off campus, staking out thrift stores provides an alternative to the usual book stores - you may find some literary gems if you're lucky! The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gladdaybookshop.com\/\">Glad Day Bookshop<\/a> features literature written by and for the LGBTQ community while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bakkaphoenixbooks.com\/\">Bakka Phoenix<\/a> specializes in sci-fi and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodegg.ca\/\">Good Egg<\/a> is the perfect spot to find books if you're a\u00a0foodie and\/or\u00a0aspiring chef.
