Hey, Varsity Blues fans! It's time to show your school spirit and mark your calendars for an exciting week of home games at the University of Toronto from October 2nd to 7th. Whether you're a die-hard supporter or just looking…
Gym Jam: A Nervous Person’s Perspective of St. George’s Gyms
I make no secret about not really enjoying public spaces- there are so many people, it can be pretty loud, and I find it pretty overwhelming. I seriously value my alone time. However, I also love running. It’s a great…
The Job Chronicles: Slaying Second Year
After last week’s post that detailed the hoops I jumped through to secure part-time employment during first year, I thought it would only be appropriate to discuss my developments over the past two semesters. In second year, I moved to…
A mindful moment: yoga and meditation at U of T
Let me start this off by saying I am not a yogi, nor am I a master of the subconscious – or any other level of consciousness for that matter. U of T’s new yoga and meditation programming is inclusive and inviting, and all you need in order to participate is your presence.
Yoga and meditation are available across campus five days a week at a variety of times to suit our crazy schedules. It’s drop-in programming so you can go as often or as seldom as you like. If it’s Wednesday, 5:15 p.m. and you’re thinking you’re done for the day, you can pop over to the Goldring Centre and join the “Yoga and Meditation” session which runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It’s flexible – in more than just the obvious sense.
That’s the session I had the pleasure of attending this week. It was held in the dance studio/multi-purpose room on the top tier of the Goldring Centre’s strength and conditioning centre. I’d never been in that space before and oh how I wanted to dance! It’s so bright and open, with a wall of mirrors that I could think of many ways to exploit.
Soul on Ice Film Screening: Past, Present and Future of Black Hockey Players
Was anyone at the Soul on Ice screening last week? The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) partnered with Hart House to put together a free screening open to students and community members of Soul on Ice, a unique documentary about the past, present and future of black hockey players.
I was a little hesitant because I’ve never been a hockey fan, nor do I know much at all about hockey. The screening took place at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport in the Kimel Family Fieldhouse – it was my first time standing in this stunning space, and now I’m eager to check out a Varsity game there in the future.
Your MoveU team was there, directing people prior to the start of the film.
Fitness Instructions
It's a New Year!
A fun fact about me: I am a fitness instructor on campus.
No, but seriously. I love being a fitness instructor:
- I find group fitness motivating. It keeps me active, because I know that at least once a week I have to smile while I'm working out. That takes training. In our industry, we are often reminded that when we are instructing, our focus is on the participants getting a great workout. So I try to attend multiple group fitness classes a week to get a good workout myself.
Fitness Class Try-Outs
Hey all, Last week I wrote about forming new habits and routines. An important part of my weekly routine is attending Drop-In Fitness Classes on campus. I like the variety of the instructors, the community-building vibe, and the convenience of…
