6 Things to Start 2020 Off Right

New year, new semester, new schedule, (new me?)! For my first blog post of 2020 I thought I’d share some of my new years resolutions/beginning-of-the-semester goals, with the intention of holding myself to them as well as maybe inspiring a few others! Below is a list of things I would like to accomplish within the next few weeks and throughout the rest of the school year:  1. Make a new exercise schedule Yoga mat. I like to try new types of exercise to keep me motivated! Checking out the Hart House drop-in schedule is a great way to do this. Here’s a link to the schedule. For working out alone, I also like to try and make myself a schedule to stick to. This semester I’ve decided that on Mondays I will dedicate time to doing this.  2. Meditate Olive in Alan Gardens. Here’s a link to my post explaining my experience with meditation. Since the craziness of exam season and the busy holidays that subsequently followed, I’ve neglected my normal meditation schedule. But I’m ready to get back on track because taking time to breath during the morning really helps me with stress! 3. Make a calendar Calendar of January. Some people like to do this electronically, but I enjoy making a calendar by hand. I like to write out when all my assignments are due, and any events I need to attend.  Having a visual of when all your assignments are due is a great way to stay organized, and I personally feel way more on top of things. It helps me know what to expect for the semester. 4. Clean the apartment Basically, my room has been a mess ever since I started neglecting it during exam season. There’s nothing awful like trash build up, but I still have unfolded clean laundry, kicked off shoes, and piles of books everywhere. And the clothes in my closet fall out when I open the door (oops). Since it’s the start of the year, it’s the perfect time to turn on some music and get to some much needed cleaning.  5. Spend time making art Watercolour paint set and brushes. I brought all my art supplies from home this year, but I still have yet to use them. A personal goal of mine is to simply make time to do some watercolour paintings. Any activity that you do just for fun, and that doesn’t have a due date can be relaxing and leave you feeling accomplished.  6. Prioritise my sleep schedule Sleeping mask. Getting just the right amount of sleep is always one of my priorities at the beginning of the semester. After missing sleep during the end of last semester, mixed with going to bed super late during the holidays, my sleeping pattern is completely out of whack. Here’s a link to Talia’s post about waking up at 7:30am, I find it really motivating. That’s just a short list of what I’d like to accomplish over the semester, and though some seem straightforward, I find that I skimp out on many of them when school starts to get busy.  Leave a comment below if you’d like to share some of your goals for the first semester of 2020!
