November 20 is Trans Day of Remembrance &amp; Resilience. The Family Care Office supports trans and nonbinary students, faculty, librarians, and staff and their family members and denounces transphobic discrimination and violence everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.studentlife.utoronto.ca\/intersections\/files\/2022\/11\/Image1-300x300-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Graphic with pink and blue with words University of Toronto trans awareness week\" class=\"wp-image-7491\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sgdo.utoronto.ca\/events\/trans-awareness-week\/\">Trans Awareness Awareness Week events are being held across U of T\u2019s three campuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking for children\u2019s books that include trans characters and challenge gender assumptions that contribute to transphobia? There are also many groups and supports for children and young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Questions about terminology? How to respect people\u2019s pronouns? <a href=\"https:\/\/sgdo.utoronto.ca\/resource-category\/terminology\/\">The University of Toronto Sexual and Gender Diversity Office (SGDO) has resources<\/a>. Members of the U of T community can <a href=\"https:\/\/sgdo.utoronto.ca\/support\/\">reach out to the U of T SGDO for support and to ask questions<\/a>.<\/li><li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the519.org\/programs\/category\/family-children-and-youth\">519 Community Centre has programming for families, children and youth<\/a>, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the519.org\/programs\/trans-youth-mentorship-program\">trans youth peer mentorship program<\/a>.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/sherbourne.on.ca\/primary-family-health-care\/lgbt-health\/soy-youth\/\">Sherbourne Health\u2019s Supporting Our Youth (SOY) program<\/a> supports the health and well-being of 2SLGBTQ youth under 29.<\/li><li>Johns Hopkins pediatricians and adolescent medicine specialists&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/profiles\/details\/renata-sanders\">Renata Arrington Sanders<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/profiles\/details\/errol-fields\">Errol Fields<\/a>&nbsp; write: \u201cAll parents want what&#8217;s best for their kids. But providing support isn&#8217;t always easy \u2014 especially if you are the parent of a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) child.
