The temperature is getting warmer and that means summer is on its way! If you are looking for something to do with the kids when the weather turns hot, check out some of these interesting, FREE events and places to go.
Arts and Crafts Sessions
Last summer I was an assistant for this arts and culture program, called ARTward Bound. The program travels to different parks, festivals, and community centres in Mississauga – providing crafts, dance workshops, and theatre performances to families and children of all ages. For more details on this year’s program, contact the Living Arts Centre.

A perfect place to spend a too-hot or a too-rainy day is the Art Gallery of Mississauga (across from Square One Shopping Centre), which provides community events, and admission is free (and by donation). I found that this gallery provides accessible, interesting, and contemporary ways of looking at art, particularly in relation to the Mississauga community.
Enjoy the Sun in Jack Darling Park
One of my favorite places to go in the summer is Jack Darling Park. It has a beautiful waterfront, a sandy beach & swim area, a splash pad, hiking trails, and an outside play gym for kids! You can easily spend a fun day here, as it is family and pet-friendly!
A great way to enjoy beautiful summer evenings and to spend time with family is by watching a movie together in Celebration Square! Even better, these movies are free! – check out the upcoming movie listings.
This is an all-ages, free event in Mississauga that is celebrating its 16th year! The festival has a range of Canadian and International artists of all different disciplines!
One of the most popular events in Mississauga, and one of my favorites, is the waterfront festival. An all-ages family friendly event that is held over an entire weekend.
Many of these events and activities are on my list to visit this summer – and perhaps you will check them out as well!
I wish you a fun, safe, and sunny summer!
