Since classes are (almost!) over and the exam period won’t start until next week, I thought I’d share a few kids-centered events that are happening at Harbourfront this weekend — just in case you want to take advantage of the upcoming 4-day break from non-stop studying. All these activities will be hosted at the York Quay Centre, at 235 Queens Quay West.
1. First, Harbourfront is holding a Winter Scavenger Hunt. Pick up the scavenger hunt handout from the information desk and then set out!
December 8 & 9, 10:00AM – 6:00PM
York Quay Centre
2. Miss Lou’s* room over at the Centre will also be open for family craft activities, like making accordion books and creating life-sized characters.
December 8 & 9, 10:30AM – 3:00PM
Miss Lou’s Room (on the second floor), York Quay Centre
3. If you want to get in the holiday mood, there’s also Winter Flicks on Saturday. They’ll be showing The Muppet Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, back to back.
The Muppet Christmas Carol: December 8, 2-3:30pm
How the Grinch Stole Christmas: December 8, 3:30-5:15pm
Studio Theatre, York Quay Centre
Finally, of course, the Natrel Rink is open for the winter, so you can always head down for an afternoon skate.
*PS: Do you know Miss Lou?
The Honourable Louise Bennett-Coverley was a Jamaican poet, storyteller, and writer, perhaps best known for her renditions of the Anansi spider stories. If you’d like to hear her reading, her “room” over at Harbourfront has recordings of her storytelling and performances, built right into the walls so you can listen whenever you stop by!
