Thanksgiving weekend is finally here, so how will you be celebrating?
If you plan to be on the St. George campus for the holiday weekend, we suggest joining the Center for International Experience for a Thanksgiving dinner held in Hart House’s Great Hall. Friday, October 5th from 6 to 8pm. For more information, click here.
If you’re looking for some fun, family-friendly events across the city, we have plenty of suggestions!
At Home for Harvest is an event at the Gibson House and family farm in Toronto on Saturday October 6th from 12 to 5pm. Children can help lend a hand in the kitchen preparing harvest foods for tasting, dress up in the Discovery Gallery and enjoy hands-on activities.
Downey’s Farm Market in Brampton is hosting a Pumpkinfest this Saturday, October 6th from 10am to 5pm. Pumpkinfest will have wagon rides, farm animals, live entertainment, puppet shows, a “slightly haunted” Boo Barn, straw jump, face painting, and a corn maze. $12 per person.
Harbourfront Centre is celebrating the end of summer with a free, 3 day family program designed for children under 12. HarbourKIDS Folk festival will feature folk art, music, dance, storytelling, theatre, and communal crafts.
Black Creek Pioneer Village will be hosting a Family Thanksgiving Dinner featuring local Ontario meat and produce on Sunday October 7th and Monday October 8th, with wagon rides for the whole family. Visit their website here to make a reservation.
Kortright Centre in Woodbridge will be hosting a Fall Colours Weekend October 6th through 8th from 10am to 4pm. Guided fall colour walks at 11am, 1pm, and 2:30pm as well as Sustainable House tours, self-guided activities and more.
If part of your Thanksgiving tradition includes giving back to your community, a great way to do so is by volunteering with or donating to a local food bank this weekend. Places like The Stop, North York Harvest, and Daily Bread are all hosting fall food drives this time of year.
Finally, I just wanted to share one of my favourite recipes for the fall season. If you’re looking for a unique twist on the traditional pumpkin pie, may I suggest pumpkin cheesecake?
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend filled with good food and lots of quality time with your loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!
