Spring Cleaning!

With the spring season officially beginning today, what better way to clear out the dreary winter then with some seriously fresh spring cleaning. For most this is nothing to get excited about, but for some it could mean a few extra dollars in your pocket. Clearing out and selling off old baby clothes or nursery furnishings (cribs, strollers, etc.) is a great way to clear away some clutter and make a few extra dollars. Although it is often encouraged to donate these items, selling them for low cost to other parents in need via popular classified websites (Craigslist, Kijiji) is a great way make a bit of extra spending money.

If you’re in the position to donate these items, please consider charitable organizations such as Goodwill, Salvation Army and Value Village who are always happy to take used furniture donations.

If your looking for advice on what to clean, keep, sell, donate, or toss away, while your making your way through your spring cleaning, check out a recent article from Today’s Parent . The article can be found here, and offers helpful suggestions for all sorts of baby/child related items. For example, they indicate that you may have to toss away old car seats as it’s impossible to tell if a car seat has been involved in an accident and may have a stress fracture that makes it unsafe. That’s why, as a general rule, second-hand stores and charities won’t accept car seats. Before throwing it out, cut the straps so others don’t use an unsafe or expired car seat.
